Princeton Standout Kaitlyn Chen Transfers to UConn, Bolsters Huskies’ Backcourt

Storrs, CT – May 15, 2025 – The UConn women’s basketball team has secured a major addition for the 2024-25 season with the transfer of former Princeton star guard Kaitlyn Chen, a dynamic playmaker expected to elevate the Huskies’ championship aspirations.

Chen, a 5’9' senior, was a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year and All-Ivy First Team selection during her tenure at Princeton. Last season, she averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, leading the Tigers to an NCAA Tournament appearance. Known for her elite ball-handling, court vision, and clutch scoring, Chen fills a critical need for UConn after the departure of All-American guard Paige Bueckers to the WNBA.

'Kaitlyn is a proven leader and winner,' said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. 'Her ability to control the tempo and make big plays fits perfectly with our system. We’re thrilled to add her experience and versatility.'

Chen’s arrival solidifies UConn’s backcourt alongside returning starters Azzi Fudd and KK Arnold, giving the Huskies one of the most formidable guard rotations in the nation. With Chen’s eligibility for one final season, UConn is poised to make another deep March Madness run.

Chen’s transfer continues a trend of Ivy League stars jumping to power-conference programs, following Harvard’s McKenzie Forbes (USC) and Penn’s Kayla Padilla (USC). Her impact will be tested early as UConn opens the season against Notre Dame in November.
