KBO Attendance Reaches 8 Million for the First Time in 5 Years...LG Tops the List

The KBO has surpassed 8 million fans for the first time in five years since 2018.

The KBO, which had a cumulative attendance of 7.945 million for 712 games through the previous day (Sept. 14), surpassed the 8 million mark on Sept. 15 when all 23,750 seats at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul were sold out. It has been 74 games since the league surpassed the 7 million mark on Sept. 24. In addition to Jamsil Baseball Stadium, games were also held in Changwon and Daejeon.

There have been only four seasons in which the KBO has surpassed 8 million fans, including this year. After reaching 8.395 million for the first time in the 2016 season, the league had three consecutive seasons of over 8 million until the 2018 season (8.073 million), but has not exceeded 8 million since then due to the spread of COVID-19.

The overall average attendance per game was 11,214, a 34% increase from last year (8,361). All 10 clubs increased their average attendance compared to last year. Kiwoom's average attendance for all matches was 8220, up 71% from last year, the highest increase among the 10 clubs. It was followed by the Hanwha Eagles (7675 - 56%) and the NC Dinos (7711 - 54%).

The team with the highest total attendance among the 10 teams was the Elgee Twins (LG), who had been in the top 10 all season. The ballpark was packed for the final home game of the season, with a final home attendance of 1.2637 million.
