Mae Hong Son provinceMae Hong Son province (Northern Thai: ᨾᩯ᩵ᩁᩬ᩵ᨦᩈᩬᩁ; Thai: แม่ฮ่องสอน, pronounced [mɛ̂ː.hɔ̂ŋ.sɔ̌ːn]; Burmese: မဲဟောင်ဆောင်; Shan: မႄႈႁွင်ႈသွၼ်; formerly called Mae Rong Son), also spelled Maehongson, Mae Hong Sorn or Maehongsorn, is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (changwat). It lies in upper northern Thailand and is the westernmost province. Neighboring provinces are (clockwise from north) Shan State of Myanmar, Chiang Mai and Tak. To the west, the province borders Kayin State and Kayah State of Myanmar. Mae Hong Son's nickname is "the city of three mists". It is hemmed in by the high mountain ranges of the Shan Hills and is the most mountainous province in Thailand, occupying 12,765 square kilometres (4,929 sq mi). The province is often covered with mist. Mae Hong Son town was originally established in the early 19th century as an elephant training camp as ordered by the then King of Chiang Mai. As of 2012, Mae Hong Son was the poorest province in Thailand.

Karen peopleThe Karen ( kə-REN), also known as the Kayin, are an ethnolinguistic group of peoples who speak Karenic languages and are indigenous to southern and southeastern Myanmar, including the Irrawaddy delta and Kayin State. The Karen account for around 6.69% of the Burmese population. The Karen consist of approximately 20 subgroups, the largest of whom are the S'gaw and the Pwo peoples. Other Karenic-speaking peoples like the Pa'O, Karenni, and the Kayan, have formed distinct identities. The ethnic identity of the Karen peoples has significantly been shaped by British colonial rule, Christian missionaries, decolonisation, and sociopolitical developments in Myanmar. The group as a whole is heterogeneous and disparate, as many Karenic ethnic groups do not share a common language, culture, religion, or material characteristics. A pan-Karen ethnic identity is a relatively modern creation, established in the 19th century with the conversion of some Karen to Christianity, and mediated by British colonial policies and practices. Karen insurgent groups, led primarily by the Karen National Union (KNU), have waged war against the Burmese government since early 1949. The original aim of the KNU was to create an independent Karen homeland called Kawthoolei, but since 1976 they have shifted towards calling for a federal system in Myanmar instead. Even so, the KNU has declined invitations to speak with the Burmese junta.

Karen-Mae HillKaren-Mae Hill, is the High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom and member of the Commonwealth's Board of Governors. Hill is also the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Antigua and Barbuda to the Republic of Estonia, Non-resident Ambassador to Ireland, the Federal Republic of Germany and Lithuania. She won a scholarships to study French and law at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom before becoming the first Antiguan to win a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford. Hill is a qualified Barrister in English law. She is the founder of the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra, co-founder and music director at the Potters Youth Group and an advocate for green technology.
Giacomo MerelloGiacomo Merello, Lord Leslie (born 9 May 1980) is an Italian-Antiguan lawyer and diplomat based in Singapore son of Italian pop-singer Marcella Bella and nephew of Italian music composer and singer Gianni Bella. In November 2024 he succeeded to the title Lord Leslie (Fife, UK), with the subsidiary title Baron of Leslie, in the Baronage of Scotland.
