K-Grelish’ Pohang Hong Yun-sang, “I’m worried about changing my style
‘K-Grealish’ Hong Yun-sang (Pohang Steelers) predicted that he will appear in a new form in the 2024 season.
Hong Yun-sang, who went through the Pohang youth team in succession, left on loan to Wolfsburg, Germany immediately after joining Pohang in 2021. After successfully completing a complete transfer, he spent time on loan at St. Petersburg (Austria) and Nuremberg (Germany).
Hong Yun-sang made his debut in the K-League when he returned to Pohang in July of last year. He energized the attack with a breakthrough using his excellent dribbling ability. Even though Hong Yun-sang joined mid-season, he contributed to Pohang's 2nd place in K League 1 and FA Cup victory with 2 goals in 11 league games.
Hong Yun-sang, who was recognized for his performance, was also called up to the Olympic team led by coach Hwang Seon-hong. After attending the Olympic team training camp held in Turkye from January 14th to the 3rd, I recently joined the winter training in Pohang.
Hong Yun-sang, who has been preparing for the season from the beginning, responded that his physical condition is very good. He said, “I wasn’t able to train much in Pohang because I was with the Olympic team, but what I did before was very helpful. Since it’s a completely new game, I’m a little more excited and I think I can do well.”
As Hong Yun-sang said, Pohang has undergone great changes. Coach Kim Ki-dong, who successfully led Pohang for five seasons, left for FC Seoul and coach Tae-ha Park took over as new coach. Hong Yun-sang constantly asked Coach Kim's son, Kim Jun-ho (Pohang), about his whereabouts, but did not receive an answer.
He laughed, saying, “The reason I came back to Pohang was because of Coach Kim, but I really didn’t know I was going to go. I kept asking Junho (Kim), but he said he didn’t know either.” He added, “I knew about it after reading the article, and I waited, thinking, ‘A good director will come.’”
Hong Yun-sang, who said he did not contact Coach Kim separately, said he would speak through the score in the game against Seoul. He showed a confident attitude, saying, “I will ask questions to the manager through the goal and work hard to get answers at the press conference.” Even in the ceremony match with Jesse Lingard, he challenged him, saying, “I will play the flute and try a lot of new things.”
Hong Yun-sang has played in the K-League for less than a year, but he has clearly made his presence known. He was loved by many fans for his hair band and playing style similar to Jack Grealish (Manchester City) of the English Premier League (EPL).
