BLOUN, a glassblowing company based in Sastamala, Finland, manufactures colourful and unique lamps and other interior design products from recycled glass. The objects are shaped by free-blowing, without moulds or machines, just as glassblowers have done for the past two centuries. Bloun wants to preserve this ancient craft by combining it with modern design. The design of Bloun's products is always based on the glassblowing process. The clear, simple style is based on the behaviour of the molten glass mass at the end of the blowpipe. The glass is not forced into an unusual shape, but the natural shape of molten glass is reflected in Bloun products. The products, hand-shaped from molten glass, are always the result of a combination of pure design and the coincidences and personal characteristics of the handcrafting process, making them unique. The sales exhibition at the Craft Museum of Finland includes vases, glass balls, watering balls and lamps. Unique glass lamps complete the range. Bloun's products are designed and manufactured by Antti Torstensson , assisted by his father Jan Torstesson. The products are made exclusively from recycled glass, which makes them more ecological than ordinary glassware. The re-melting of the finished glass requires much less energy than making new glass from virgin raw materials. Bloun is a member of the Finnish Eco-entrepreneurs.
