Junior Project Controller
Digital nomads. Work from anywhereCompany: Blue Oak Consulting
The Junior Project Controller will support the financial oversight and accountability of a Swedish financial technology group that is currently expanding its reach. This role involves tracking the economic health of large scale deliverables and ensuring that project spending remains aligned with the core investment case.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
In this position, you will work as part of a fully remote team focused on maintaining financial rigor for a major fintech engagement. You will spend your time reconciling project costs, updating forecasts, and flagging discrepancies between planned budgets and actual spending. This is not a role for someone who wants to stay on the surface: you will be expected to look into individual line items to understand the logic behind the numbers. Because we move away from traditional consulting structures, you will have direct visibility into how financial decisions impact the broader project economics. This is a full time, permanent position where your contributions directly support our ability to provide honest, data driven feedback to our clients.
What You Will Be Doing
* Assisting in the preparation of monthly financial reports and budget tracking for the Swedish fintech expansion.
* Monitoring project resource allocation to ensure costs remain within the agreed upon scope.
* Investigating variances between actual spending and project forecasts to identify potential financial risks.
* Updating financial models and project trackers with fresh data to maintain an accurate view of capital usage.
* Verifying the accuracy of invoices and expense claims against project documentation.
* Collaborating with project leads to collect the necessary data for budget reconciliations.
* Organizing financial records to ensure that all project assumptions can be audited and verified at any time.
* Preparing clear summaries of project financial status for internal reviews with the firm's principals.
What You Bring
* A university degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similar field of study.
* A high level of comfort with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use basic formulas and organize large datasets.
* A natural tendency to double check work and a keen eye for finding errors in spreadsheets.
* The ability to communicate financial information clearly without relying on overly complex jargon.
* An investigative mindset that is not afraid to ask why a specific cost was incurred.
* Strong organizational habits and the ability to manage recurring tasks without constant supervision.
* A willingness to learn the specific economic drivers of the financial technology sector.
* The discipline required to work effectively in a hundred percent remote environment.
What We Offer
* A fully remote work arrangement that allows you to manage your professional tasks from your own environment.
* A paid position with a competitive salary for an entry level role in the consulting and project management sector.
* Direct exposure to the firm's principals and the opportunity to see how high stakes financial decisions are made.
* Meaningful work on a substantial international project for a growing fintech group.
* A professional atmosphere that values analytical thinking and skepticism over corporate window dressing.
* The chance to build a foundation in project controlling and financial advisory within a disciplined team.
Working at Blue Oak Consulting means choosing to focus on the reality of the numbers. We do not hide behind vague promises of transformation: we focus on whether a decision makes financial sense and if the capital being spent is actually moving the project toward its goals. For an entry level professional, this provides a unique chance to learn the mechanics of business economics from the ground up. You will be expected to be rigorous, to be honest about what the data tells you, and to maintain the financial discipline that our clients rely on us for. This role is about providing the clarity that helps businesses avoid costly mistakes as they scale.
