Junior Product Analyst

Junior Product Analyst

Digital nomads. Work from anywhere

Company: Blue Oak Consulting

As a Junior Product Analyst, you will assist our senior advisors in examining the commercial logic and financial assumptions that underpin product portfolios. You will help us support a prominent Italian client by analyzing the economic drivers of their business units to ensure their growth plans are grounded in reality.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
This is a full time, fully remote position designed for someone who enjoys getting into the details of financial data. In this role, you will be looking under the hood of various products and projects to find the logic, or lack thereof, in a commercial case. You will not be making slide decks for the sake of appearances. Instead, you will be performing rigorous analysis to see if a product is truly profitable or if costs are being hidden in the complexity of a large organization. Since we work in a small team, you will have the opportunity to see how senior principals approach a problem and how they challenge the assumptions of large corporate entities. You should be comfortable working independently from your own location while maintaining close communication with the team through digital tools. We value technical accuracy and the ability to speak plainly about what the numbers are saying.
What You Will Be Doing
* Auditing product performance data to identify where actual revenue and margins deviate from initial projections.
* Helping the team evaluate the portfolio of a prominent Italian client by testing the validity of their internal financial reporting.
* Building and maintaining financial models that simulate different pricing and volume scenarios for new products.
* Investigating cost structures to ensure that all overhead and operational expenses are correctly allocated to the right products.
* Summarizing complex data sets into simple, clear memos that highlight potential financial risks.
* Checking historical data for consistency to identify trends that might be overlooked in standard corporate reports.
* Supporting the preparation of independent valuation reports for potential acquisition targets.
* Coordinating with client data teams to ensure we have the necessary raw information for our economic assessments.
What You Bring
* A university degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field with a strong focus on quantitative analysis.
* A high level of proficiency in Excel and the ability to organize large amounts of information logically.
* A healthy skepticism and the habit of double checking figures before presenting them as facts.
* Strong writing skills with a focus on being direct, clear, and avoiding professional jargon.
* An interest in the mechanics of how businesses make money and how they lose it.
* The ability to manage your own time effectively in a remote work setting without constant supervision.
* Basic knowledge of financial accounting principles and the structure of corporate financial statements.
* Comfort with receiving direct feedback and a willingness to revise work until it meets our firm's standards for accuracy.
What We Offer
* A fully remote work arrangement that allows you to work from your preferred environment.
* Direct mentorship from experienced principals who are recognized experts in their fields.
* The opportunity to do substantive work on high stakes projects for international clients.
* A work culture that values results and analytical honesty over internal politics or office visibility.
* Continuous learning opportunities in the areas of valuation, pricing strategy, and capital allocation.
* A competitive salary that is attractive for a junior professional and reflects the rigor of the role.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that the best decisions are made when the numbers are allowed to speak for themselves. We look for individuals who are more interested in finding the right answer than in finding the most popular one. By joining our team, you will learn how to approach complex financial problems with discipline and how to provide the clarity that our clients need to move forward with confidence.
