Approved by the UN General Assembly in 2000, World Refugee Day highlights one of the most pressing issues of our time. Every minute people leave their homes because of wars, persecution or fear for their lives.
The international community is pooling its resources to support those who find themselves in a crisis situation. The key coordinator of this work today is the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), established in 1950.
The Russian Federation is also contributing internationally to solving refugee-related problems. Russia actively cooperates with the UNHCR on issues of assistance to internally displaced persons and internal migration, which the country directly faces.
On behalf of the head of the department, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, a specialized hotline is operating in the Information Center of the Investigative Committee of Russia to support residents of new Russian regions and internally displaced persons from Ukraine.
