World No.1 Iga Swiatek, on Saturday, July 2, has been knocked out of the Wimbledon 2022. The 20-year-old lost to France’s Alize Cornet 4-6, 2-6 on Court 1. The defeat also brought an end to Swiatek’s 37-match winning streak this season.

After her second round match where shlost the second set to Netherlands’ Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, the 20-year-old Swiatek said that she wasn’t quite at her very best while playing on grass.

In the game against Cornet, Swiatek looked out of sorts from the word go. The Polish star lost the first three games of the first set and was pushed on to the back-foot.

In the second set, Cornet didn’t give the top-seed much room for error. Cornet was good to the extent that she won five out of six break points against Swiatek, who was deemed as the clear favourite to come up trumps.

Swiatek faltered on the second serve and won only 32 percent of his points on them. Needless to say that it was not one of her best performances this season.

HALEP MAKES PROGRESSESIn another match, Simona Halep made her way into the Round of 16 of the grass-court tournament at SW19. The 30-year-oldefeated Poland’s Magdalena Frech in straight sets on Court 2.

Earlier in the day, Coco Gauff, the runner-up in the French Open 2022, failed to qualify for the Round of 16. The 18-year-old lost to Amanda Anisimova after initially taking a 1-0 lead.
