Upon its release, the track debuted at #1 on the iTunes Philippines all-genre chart, another record for Julie’s book, with her previous releases “Regrets,” “Breakthrough” album and it’s singles (“Tayong Dalawa” and “Nothing Left”) sharing the same success. The two artists were also featured as the cover of Spotify’s New Music Friday Philippines playlist.
Produced and written by OPM rock icon Rico Blanco, the track brings Julie into the shoes of the “third party” in someone else’s relationship, as it explores themes of forbidden love and longing for someone you can’t have. Aside from the unique point of view the singer-songwriter puts herself in for the first time, the music it is set to brings forth a unique mix of musical styles — featuring the Pinoy jukebox style of hugot, and putting some modern synth elements as well, resulting into a fresh yet familiar sound audiences would relate to.
Coming from a year of breakthroughs and heartaches, singer-songwriter Julie Anne San Jose returns with a brand new single that signifies a new chapter in her life.
Julie’s first album under Universal Records, “Breakthrough” broke the boundaries, with her change of sound and approach to her music. All of its singles (Nothing Left, Tayong Dalawa, Down For Me) and the album itself reached the top of the iTunes charts during their first day of release, with the song “Your Song (My One and Only)” also reaching 9 million streams and counting on Spotify.
This year, Julie is set to continue her stride with the release of her newest composition “Regrets.” The emotional song is a reflection of her experiences from the past year, may it be about her career or personal life.
Minutes after its release, the new single already reached the top spot on the iTunes Philippines All Genre and Pop Charts, continuing her streak of #1 hit singles, joining the likes of K-Pop groups BTS and Blackpink on top of the charts.
Talking about the song, Gloc says “Goodbye song ko ito sa rap na ginawan ko ng kwento na parang relationship sa isang babae (this is my goodbye song to rap, which I likened to being in a relationship).” Though this is in reference to thoughts about staying in the rap scene, there seems to be no stopping the rap icon from putting out fresh music that still resonates with long-time fans and new fans alike.
Maleta is released as a single ahead of Gloc-9’s upcoming EP which is expected later this year. The track will be included along with “Lagi,” a collaboration with fast-rising Pinoy rap artist Al James, which has now garnered over 4.2 million views on YouTube. Aside from this, Gloc also penned and appeared on the track “Pamaypay” with R&B singer and Tawag ng Tanghalan-alum JKris, and has had various collaborations with Shanti Dope, which clearly indicates his support in grooming the next big acts in OPM and the Hip-Hop scene in the country.
In November 2018, Julie Anne had an Opportunity to be part of Gary Valencianos Advocacy Album, Awit at Laro to promote Filipino games and songs through art and music. She is the only Gma Artist that is included in the album, she performed the song Pitik Bulag Composed by Jungee Marcelo.
Awit at Laro is made up of 20 native songs like Magtanim Ay Di Biro or Sitsiritsit Alibangbang and songs about our childhood games like sipa or patintero. Almost a hundred artists got together to do the songs and recordings while others contributed artworks about the subjects. The result is one wonderful book with pages of song lyrics and incredibly impressive artworks.
Proceeds from the album will go toward funding children’s causes via UNICEF, where Gary V serves as a national ambassador, the Tukod Foundation, Shining Light Foundation and towards the improvement of Museo Pambata’s exhibits and facilities.
Breakthrough is Julie’s first album under Universal Records where she explores a different genre of music unheard from her previous releases. Prior to its release, the album’s featured singles ‘Nothing Left‘, her rendition of the Parokya ni Edgar classic ‘Your Song (My One and Only),’ her original song ‘Tayong Dalawa‘ and ‘Down for Me (featuring Fern.)’ all topped various charts as well.
