Julia Spencer leaves Swanley Court School to take up a position as governess to five motherless little girls. Her employer, Sir Henry, their father, has been recommended by his neighbour, Lucius Belvoir, a trustee of Swanley Court; but it seems that his understanding of Sir Henry has failed somewhat. When Sir Henry inherits a title and property on the other side of the country, he goes ahead, expecting Julia to move his children and all their nursery staff in one coach. Julia does her best, arranging stops with people associated with the School, rather than stay in inns with five children under the age of six. When the carelessness of another road user tips the coach into a ditch, seriously injuring Julia, one of the maids and one of the children, she is forced to accept the hospitality of local landowner, Rupert Thorington. Sir Henry’s manifold inadequacies become more apparent in a crisis, and Julia finds herself drawing close to Rupert, who enters into the dark secrets of her past more closely than she might have expected. Returning to the School, with her charges, and seeking out her half-siblings, Julia discovers love, and finds herself with a ready-made family.

Sarah Waldock grew up in Suffolk and still resides there, in charge of a husband, and under the ownership of sundry cats. All Sarah’s cats are rescue cats and many of them have special needs. They like to help her write and may be found engaging in such helpful pastimes as turning the screen display upside-down, or typing random messages in kittycode into her computer.
Sarah claims to be an artist who writes. Her degree is in art, and she got her best marks writing essays for it. She writes largely historical novels, in order to retain some hold on sanity in an increasingly insane world. There are some writers who claim to write because they have some control over their fictional worlds, but Sarah admits to being thoroughly bullied by her characters who do their own thing and often refuse to comply with her ideas. It makes life more interesting, and she enjoys the surprises they spring on her. Her characters’ surprises are usually less messy [and much less noisy] than the surprises her cats spring.
Sarah has tried most of the crafts and avocations which she mentions in her books, on the principle that it is easier to write about what you know. She does not ride horses, since the Good Lord in his mercy saw fit to invent Gottleib Daimler to save her from that experience; and she has not tried blacksmithing. She would like to wave cheerily at anyone in any security services who wonder about middle aged women who read up about making gunpowder and poisonous plants.

Warning: I'm an unabashed romance writer who couldn't find post-apocalypse books with sex scenes, so I am creating my own world and welcome you to take a peek! Book 2 is spicier than book 1 due to the characters involved.

And this series just keeps getting better! I am having a serious book hangover right now, I want Defending our Ever After...Like now!! As much as I enjoyed Shelby’s story, I absolutely devoured Julia’s story. Her story is just so heartfelt...you can literally feel her uncertainty, her fear, her desperation on these pages, and oh my lord Russ. Russ is not anything like I had expected him to be. This huge giant hunk of a man who has no problem killing men with his bare hands to protect his ‘firecracker’ lays on a tarp at night confessing his insecurities to Julia. Love this man...so strong, assertive, and a total caveman, but a gentle giant when it comes to Julia. Russ and Julia’s Journey is very different from Shelby’s and their adventure has its own risks. Russ is in constant fear for Julia’s safety, as the closer they get to her grandfather’s the more danger they seem to encounter. As they approach the safety zone Russ is left to wonder how her family will handle a convicted felon living among them? How will they handle Julia’s choosing a life with Russ? Julia loves Russ...But her family is so important to her as well...will their opinions of Russ destroy what little future they may have together?
As soon as I finished DARK EVER AFTER, I immediately downloaded JULIA'S JOURNEY and read it all in one afternoon/evening. I just couldn't put it down (as I watched my granddaughter in a horse show and the battery of my device depleting). I can't imagine the physical endurance they had to have while the events around them wrecked their mental endurance and thoughts. As proud of Julia as I was, my hero was Russ! Julia and Russ couldn't have been more different than night and day, but putting their strengths and knowledge together, they made an amazing pair. And as much as I enjoyed Julia's journey to get to her family, I really enjoyed the last few chapters. (no spoilers here!) What a great mixture of relationships, personalities, and skills to make up an amazing cast of characters. I'm so ready for DEFENDING OUR EVER AFTER!
These 2 get home from the EMP books were better than I expected them to be. Clever dialogue, 3 dimensional characters, and the plot moves along well.
