Julia Garner has come a long way since she was a shy 10-year-old with a data-less, brick-sized cell phone, green with envy over her older sister’s Razr phone.
The 26-year-old was recently nominated for her second Emmy, after winning last year for her role as Ruth Langmore in Ozark. She’s going to play scam queen Anna Delvey in a miniseries created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. (Put together a sentence that better indicates total success for a young actor in 2020. You can’t.) Last month, it was rumored that Madonna herself is looking at Garner to play her in a possible upcoming biopic.
And now, making her childhood dreams extremely literal, Garner is the star of a campaign for a new Razr phone. That’s right: Hoist up your low-rise jeans and alert your MySpace top eight—the first truly iconic cell phone is back, and this time, it’s a smartphone.
In a short promotional film for the launch of the new 5G version of the phone, Garner tucks the phone—a chubby, futuristic-looking square of light, which pops open to reveal a seamless flat screen—into a knee-high fuchsia stiletto boot and roars off in a sleek car with her friends. “I’m living my 10-year-old fantasy, basically, having a Razr,” Garner told Glamour .
This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
We asked her to pump the brakes long enough for another round of Your Fave’s Faves . “I love products,” she said, laughing. “So it’s like—where do you want to go?” And so, Julia Garner, the one-time owner of a brick phone, took us from Chekhov to La Mer , from her favorite documentary about cults to her favorite Real Housewives franchise.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I love reality TV. I love all the Housewives —well, I love New York and Beverly Hills. Those are my two favorites. And then 90 Day Fiancé .
I love, love, love a good doc. They’re probably my favorite thing to watch. I love that docs are having this big moment right now. Right now, the doc that I’ve been watching is The Vow. It’s about [the cult] NXIVM, and so far it’s so good. I’m really enjoying that one. And then during quarantine, I watched the Unabomber doc [on Netflix], and that was really interesting too.
My favorite outfit would probably be the red patent leather coat with the leopard-print turtleneck and matching leopard-print boots! I believe the coat was Balenciaga . And then I love the pink fuchsia boots—they were amazing.
I love my LED light from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. That’s really great. I also love a La Mer cream , and I love the Fresh Soy cleanser and the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50V .
I’ve been using the same lipstick for years. I have two that I love—I use Fire Down Below by Nars, and then I use this cream blush by Tata Harper, I think the color is called [Very] Popular. You can use it as a tinted cream blush, but then you can also put it on your lips, and it’s this really beautiful lip color. And then I also like to put it on my eyelids a little bit, so it’s this kind of reddish, rosy eye shadow. Very light, but it’s all kind of the same color, so it’s really pretty and super natural looking. That’s probably my favorite multi-makeup I like to use; it’s like an all-around essential. I don’t know how to put on eye shadow, but I can dot it on my face and it makes a difference, you know?
1stDibs ! [An app that sells vintage fine art, fashion, and furniture.] I go on it at least once a day even if I’m not buying anything and just kind of browse. There are certain artists I’ve never even heard of because they were popular maybe in the ’50s or a furniture brand or something. I also love my Google Calendar app! And my Whole Foods app because that’s really saved me during COVID. Those are all important.
Not too long ago, I reread 1984 , which kind of relates to what’s going on right now! My sister actually just mailed a book to me—I love Chekhov, and she loves Chekhov short stories , so I’m probably gonna read that next. A lot of quarantine I was just resting! Now I’m reading scripts too.
The main thing is I have to always remind myself to drink a lot of water. Water is such a high percentage of your body! The first thing I drink in the day is lemon water. I do love a green juice! But I’m not into that whole actress thing of “I’m getting into this and this
