The Judas Cradle , also known as the Judas chair and The Guided Cradle , was a tall stool shaped torture device with a metal or wooden pyramid on top allegedly used by the Spanish Inquisition. In Italian it is the culla di Giuda ("Cradle of Judas"), in German the Judaswiege ("Judas Cradle"), and in French the veille —"the wake" or "nightwatch" (because when certain muscles are contracted, the victim could not fall asleep). [1] [ dubious – discuss ]

The victim would be stripped, bound with ropes, and suspended above the device. They would then be lowered, usually very slowly, on to the device, making the pyramid enter the vagina, anus or scrotum. The amount of pain the device inflicted could be changed in several ways. The victim could be rocked, they could be dropped repeatedly onto the device, one leg could be lifted, olive oil could be spread on the pyramid, or brass weights could be hung from the victim's legs to slowly impale them.
Sometimes to prolong torture the victim would be suspended above the device over night, and torture would continue the next morning.
The device was rarely, if ever, cleaned. If victims did not die from the device, they almost always died from infection. Torture with the Judas Cradle could last several hours to several days.
Apart from the agonizing pain one suffered, the humiliation was the primary attraction for this method of torture. Whenever the victim fainted from the pain, the torturer would lift the victim until the tortured person was "awake" again to commence with the process. [1] [2]

A similar device, known as a horse, is sometimes said to have been used in Prussia to discipline soldiers, and during the American Civil War by Union guards in Camp Douglas against their Confederate prisoners to extract information. This device was not designed to break the skin but instead cause damage to the genitals. [1] [3]

Something went wrong. Wait a moment and try again.
Many devices have been made through out history to punish the criminals or the captives of war.
Judas cradle is one such device (warning - people with low appetite for such things should not go ahead)
A judas cradle was very popular in Europe in the medieval times. It was also known as the Judas chair or the guided cradle.
It consisted of a pyramid shaped wooden structure on which the victim was placed on the top of the pyramid with his or her legs tied down so that the weight could not shift elsewhere. The pointed edge of the pyramid was inserted into the anus of the victim and the torture continued for several hours to several days. Sometimes extra weight was also tied down to the victim's legs and oil was also put on the device to increase the pain.
This device is believed to have been invented in Spain at the time of inquisition. Sometimes victims would be taken out of the cradle and then put back again just to increase their misery.
The device was never washed. The person would catch infectious diseases even if they were to survive the gruesome pain.
Do you know of something as painful as judas cradle?
You know what, let’s answer either way. Actually, let’s divide torture in a few more forms while we’re at it. Let’s rate it for how physically damaging it is. On a scale from 0 to 5. Then we would have:
0. No physical damage whatsoever, purely psychological torture.

The reason for these distinctions is that, depending on situation, people often needed various forms of torture for various means. I have tried to include at least one form of torture in all categories. You be the judge of what is the worst. Also, this should speak for itself, but never try any of these techniques yourself . Even the physically non-damaging ones can cause lasting harm to a person on a psychological level. Never try to play at torture games with your friends; it is not something to be taken lightly. Also, if you have a weak stomach, then stop reading here . I am a big fan of horror movies and I have seen some gruesome things on the internet and on tv because of this interest. Please don’t hate me or downvote me if you feel bad after reading this. You have been warned. If you wish to pass the entire story and just find what is in my opinion the worst thing that can be done to you, skip the story to the end, although you may wanna read bits halfway as well before you decide whether you actually want to know or not.
Level 0. Purely psychological torture.
You can think up a lot of things with this.
And lots of variations on this. Still here? Then onto the next level.
We’re going into the realm of tying someone down and doing stuff to them now. compared to the previous level, that gives a lot of options.
Any variation on the above is also possible. Let’s move on….
Level 2. No visible wounds during torture.
Warning: it’s only going to get darker from here.
Level 3: Visible wounds, just no lasting effects. Except maybe scars.
All of these are bad, some worse than others. It depends on your point of view but I think I included enough that everyone can somehow relate to at least one of these being terrible beyond imagination.
You’d be amazed how many options there are suddenly open when you don’t have to think about lasting damage anymore. Be warned that some of these are really stomach-turning levels of gross.
There is one more in this category which I personally find the worst torture out of all, which is all the way down. Before that, let’s go into torturous murders.
And finally, in my personal opinion the worst thing people ever came up with, which can be either level 4 or level 5 depending on how far you go:
Flaying. The process of removing one’s skin from their flesh while they are alive. This process opens up the underlying meat to the elements. All of the nerve endings in the skin get severed, meaning you walk around with open nerves. The meat dries out, cracks, bleeds, and withers over time as infections get a hold of it now that there is no skin left to protect it. Because of the ever changing state of the flesh directly under the skin (exposed, drying, infected, healing, cracking, etc.) you never get a chance to get used to it and depending on how much of your body gets flayed, you could be in for torture that lasts for hours, days or even weeks. Skin, when it’s completely stripped off, doesn’t grow back. Yet there is no underlying wound, like with burns, that prompts the body to close up the tissue underneath the vanished skin. If a lot of skin gets flayed, this process can take away your life, but only very slowly. Again in Game of Thrones, or at least (my apologies for not being up to date with the TV-series but I have read all the books so far) in A Song of Ice and Fire, the books, it is mentioned that a person who had one finger flayed actually tried to bite his own finger off after a while. This is not an exaggeration.
Feel free to discuss, add more, or even comment if you feel like I didn’t explain something well enough. If you’re still here, than congratulations: you now have a better grasp on human cruelty. I hope you don’t have nightmares. Although if you’re a horror fan, maybe you don’t mind.
I was thoroughly briefed on this in the Army, since it was a likely scenario in case of war that I would get tortured. The trouble is that when your body believes it is about to die, it will say absolutely anything to make it stop.
And “absolutely anything” includes whatever it was you tried to keep secret… and absolutely anything you can make up . If you don’t know the answer, you will lie, because the torturer will not accept “I don’t know”.
So any information gained is practically useless. You can absolutely not trust it, unless you are certain that, e.g., you need to know what plane someo

Witness, for instance, when the US during the second Iraq war bombed a popular restaurant in Baghdad, since they had “absolutely certain” information that Hussein always dined there on Tuesdays, or whatever the story was. To anyone who had got my briefing, it was blatantly obvious that the “information” had been obtained by torture, and someone invented the most ridiculous lie and stuck with it, because it made them stop. You have to be a moron to try to get useful information out of anyone that way, and an even bigger moron to announce to the world that you are stupid enough not only to believe it, but actually to act upon it. Of course, Hussein was nowhere near the place.

FYI - This is a Judas Cradle. A medieval torture device. Victims were lowered on top and left or sometimes pulled down.

damn imagine being the victim and there just a audience laughing at you that would be brutal
They have torture devices all over the place in many zones. Crema has a foot torture device.
I saw Zana had a 'Gilded Cradle' hideout decoration available. "Oh," I thought. "A cradle! I can put that next to the exile holding the baby." It was not what I expected.
It's too bad Torment league didn't have a unique based on Judas Cradle. Scold's Bridle and Brutus Lead Sprinkler are both based on medieval torture methods.
Pants introduced in 3.0. first unique pair, Judas cradle. Don't ask how you wear them...
Pretty much everything is based on real world stuff in this game.
My step dad shoots some pretty cool fireballs.
The architecture is very much like that of European royalty. The extravagance and cruelty really drive home the actual cruelty of what happened in real life... minus magic gems and nightmare, of course.
Even the item scolds bridle is based on a torture device used back then on woman.
People seem to forget Rat's nest, also a rather gruesome torture device. There's a reason why you take more fire damage...
