Josh Freese Joins Foo Fighters Full-Time

Drummer Josh Freese Joins Legendary Rock Band Foo Fighters as Permanent Member

Los Angeles, CA – May 17, 2025

In a move that has thrilled rock fans worldwide, the Foo Fighters have officially announced that prolific drummer Josh Freese will be joining the band as their full-time drummer. The decision comes after Freese’s electrifying performances during the band’s 2024–2025 world tour, where he stepped in following the tragic passing of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.

Freese, a seasoned session and touring drummer known for his work with bands like Devo, Weezer, Nine Inch Nails, and The Vandals, as well as his tenure with Guns N’ Roses and A Perfect Circle, has been widely praised for his dynamic energy and technical precision behind the kit.

Dave Grohl, frontman of the Foo Fighters, shared his excitement in a statement: 'Josh has been an incredible force on this tour—not just as a drummer, but as a friend and a creative collaborator. Taylor could never be replaced, but Josh brings his own magic to the band, and we’re stoked to have him officially on board.'

Fans took to social media to celebrate the news, with many calling it a 'perfect fit.' Freese himself posted on Instagram: 'Beyond honored to be part of this next chapter. Taylor was a legend, and I’ll do my best to keep the spirit of this band alive. Let’s rock!'

The Foo Fighters are set to begin recording their 12th studio album later this year, with Freese contributing to the sessions. A new single is expected to drop by the end of 2025.
