He wasn’t the strongest or the fastest, but he was observant. Growing up in the vast wheat fields, he had learned to read the land, predict storms, and find hidden pockets of food where others saw only barren earth. His quiet resilience made him a survivor.

The Reaping

When his younger sister’s name was called at the Reaping, Joseph didn’t hesitate. He stepped forward, shouting, 'I volunteer as tribute!' The crowd fell silent—District 9 hadn’t had a volunteer in decades.

The Arena: A Wasteland of Sand and Secrets

This year’s arena was a desert wasteland, mirroring District 9’s droughts. The scorching sun baked the earth, and water was scarce. Most tributes rushed the Cornucopia, but Joseph hung back, slipping away with only a small knife and a canteen.
