BREAKING: Jordan Spieth Edges Out Scottie Scheffler in Dramatic RBC Heritage 2025 Playoff

In a thrilling finale at Harbour Town Golf Links, Jordan Spieth claimed his second RBC Heritage title, defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a sudden-death playoff on Sunday. The victory marks Spieth’s first win of the 2025 season and adds another memorable chapter to his storied career.

A Nail-Biting Finish

Spieth and Scheffler, paired together in the final group, traded blows all afternoon, with neither golfer holding more than a one-shot lead. Scheffler, seeking his fourth win of the year, birdied the 72nd hole to force extra holes after Spieth’s clutch 15-foot par save on 17 kept him in contention.

The playoff began on the iconic 18th hole, where both players found the fairway. Scheffler’s approach landed just inside Spieth’s, setting up a dramatic putting duel. After Scheffler narrowly missed his 12-foot birdie attempt, Spieth drained a curling 10-footer to seal the victory, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Spieth’s Emotional Victory

'This one means a lot,' Spieth said, fighting back tears in his post-round interview. 'Harbour Town is a special place for me, and to beat a player like Scottie, who’s been on an incredible run, makes it even sweeter.'

The win is Spieth’s 17th PGA Tour victory and his first since the 2023 RBC Heritage, where he also triumphed in a playoff. With the victory, he jumps to No. 8 in the world rankings and solidifies his Ryder Cup standing.

Scheffler’s Valiant Effort

Despite the loss, Scheffler’s consistency remains unmatched. The 2025 Masters champion has now finished in the top three in seven of his last eight starts. 'I gave it everything,' Scheffler said. 'Jordan just made one more putt than I did. That’s golf.'

Other Notable Performances

Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick finished solo third after a bogey-free 66 on Sunday.

Ludvig Åberg, the rising Swedish star, tied for fourth in his RBC Heritage debut.

Local favorite Justin Thomas rallied with a final-round 65 to finish T6.

What’s Next?

The PGA Tour now heads to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic, where Spieth is expected to team up with close friend Will Zalatoris in the team format. Meanwhile, Scheffler will take a brief break before gearing up for the Wells Fargo Championship.
