Jordan Rain (born April 15, 1974) is an American multi-instrumentalist and DJ. He has performed and recorded with the groups Yogoman Burning Band, Behead The Prophet No Lord Shall Live, Patterns Make Sunrise, and Reeks & the Wrecks. [1] [2] [3] Rain has been a notable vinyl disc jockey for the Bellingham, Washington area since 1999, [4] spinning several varieties of Soul and Jamaican music, including mento, ska, reggae and roots reggae, rocksteady, dub, and dancehall. Rain also participates in the Jamaican practice of toasting simultaneously for his audiences.

Rain was born and raised in Seattle, Washington . In his early life he attended Shorecrest High School, [5] where he played in the school band and drum corps. As he became older, his peers introduced him to straight edge hardcore, a subgenre of hardcore punk music that proved to be personally influential to him. The first group he played in was Patterns Make Sunrise, an emo band that formed out of the ashes of other local outfits in 1993. He played drums alongside fellow members Avalon Kalin, Graeme Nelson, and Kelly Ockinga. [6]

During his work with Patterns Make Sunrise, Rain was invited to play with Joshua Ploeg (of the Mukilteo Fairies) in a newly-formed group titled Behead The Prophet No Lord Shall Live. Taking their name from a Deicide song, the outfit played extreme metal-influenced hardcore that was heavily aligned with LGBT culture. [7] Shortly afterwards, Rain joined Reeks & the Wrecks, an experimental rock-oriented band. [8]

In 1999, Rain pursued a position as a vinyl DJ at local dance clubs. He started his own music night titled "Yogoman's Wild Rumpus" at the now defunct 3B Tavern in Bellingham , [9] where he wove many styles and genres of music seamlessly together; eventually becoming dedicated to rocksteady, reggae, dub, dancehall, mento, and ska. [10] Rain moved his operation to an all-ages friendly outdoor venue at the Boundary Bay Brewery in 2003. By 2005, Rain (now under the moniker DJ Yogoman) had started "Reggae Night", which was weekly hosting around 700 people at it's peak.

In 2005, Rain formed his own celebration-oriented dance group Yogoman Burning Band. Within the group, he takes on the responsibility of both vocals and drumming, supporting a cast of additional local musicians and artists. [11] The band synthesizes Rain's prior performance-based musical expeditions with his appreciation of Jamaican music, all the while reflecting elements of jam bands, funk, soul, and New Orleans brass band music. [12] His wife Jacqueline Rae plays alongside Rain, both in Yogoman Burning Band and as a separate duo. [13]
