There is no "correct" version of this song. Every Cajun band seems to have its own version. We have provided what seems to be the earliest version, recorded in 1929 by the Breaux Brothers. We have also included lyrics similar to those in Michael Doucet's more recent recordings.

Sometimes called the Cajun national anthem, this waltz is a traditional favorite in large parts of Louisiana. The first versions of the song appeared in the late 1920s, and it became a popular country song in the 40s by Roy Acuff and Red Foley . In this 1958 version, Jennings is backed by fellow Texans Buddy Holly on guitar and King Curtis on saxophone.
