Auburn Star Johni Broome Declares for NBA Draft, Hires Agent

Auburn, AL — April 10, 2024

Auburn Tigers’ standout forward Johni Broome has officially declared for the 2024 NBA Draft and will forgo his remaining college eligibility by signing with an agent, sources confirmed today.

The 6'10' big man, who transferred to Auburn from Morehead State, made an immediate impact in the SEC, earning First-Team All-SEC honors in back-to-back seasons. Broome averaged 16.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game this past season, leading the Tigers to another NCAA Tournament appearance.

'After talking with my family and coaches, I feel ready to take the next step in my basketball journey,' Broome said in a statement. 'Auburn will always be home, and I’m grateful for the support from the fans and my teammates.'

NBA scouts have praised Broome’s versatility, defensive presence, and improved offensive game, projecting him as a potential late first-round to early second-round pick. His ability to stretch the floor with a developing three-point shot has boosted his stock in a league that values skilled big men.

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl expressed his support, saying, 'Johni has been a leader on and off the court. He’s worked tirelessly for this opportunity, and I have no doubt he’ll succeed at the next level.'

Broome will begin pre-draft workouts in the coming weeks, with the NBA Draft set for June 26-27 in Brooklyn, New York.
