ALEXANDRIA, VA --(Marketwired - October 01, 2013) - Now that school is back in session, the U.S. Army announces the continuation of its partnership with 100 Black Men of America by introducing leadership training workshops for young men. The Leadership Institutes will focus on helping youth explore the traits and qualities of leaders, and they will be offered through 10 different chapters of 100 Black Men in September and October. The Leadership Institutes will reach up to 300 young, African-American men across the country. Presented as a highly interactive session, the Leadership Institute is structured to prepare participants for various life challenges. The core of the curriculum involves instilling key values that are prevalent among leaders today and developing a similar skill set. In September, the Army conducted Leadership Institutes in Charlotte, NC; Los Angeles, CA; and Washington, DC. In the month of October, the Leadership Institutes will be in Atlanta, GA; St. Louis, MO; Miami, FL; Chicago, IL; Savannah, GA; Little Rock, AK; and New York, NY. The long-standing relationship enjoyed by the U.S. Army and 100 Black Men of America has helped develop strong leadership skills among African-American youth, says U.S. Army Capt. Ibrahim Tantawi of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. Together, we have engaged these youngsters, giving them the tools they need to succeed, no matter what path they choose in life. Education and career success is a priority for both the 100 Black Men of America and the U.S. Army. The U.S. Army has a long-standing commitment to providing educational opportunities through programs such as March2Success -- a free, online resource designed to allow high school students improve their proficiencies in subjects such as science and math while also preparing them for both state standardized tests and college entrance exams. The U.S. Army can provide an opportunity for African-American youths to obtain a college education even as tuition costs continue to rise. Last year, the Army awarded more than $280 million in ROTC scholarships for students in nearly 500 colleges and universities throughout the country.
