Although its name sounds like a nightmare, the Jock Horror strain is actually far from it. It offers its users a euphoric and energizing high and can also help with depression and anxiety. The crisp and earthy flavor is refreshing and super smooth, while producing no cough. Jock Horror contains a 24% THC level, so it's best used during the day!
Flowering period is approximately 9-11 weeks, best grown outdoors
Jock Horror, developed as an offshoot to world famous cannabis strain Jack Herer , was developed by Nirvana seeds as a better and faster yielding alternative to the original Jack strain. This Jock Horror comes straight from the legendary breeding grounds in Amsterdam, where Nirvana founder Mau began his work in the 1980s producing top quality marijuana strains available to the general public for cultivation. Jock Horror is one of these creations, and the effects of the marijuana strain aren’t actually as scary as the name may sound.
This marijuana type does certainly live up to its “jock-ie” expectations, however, offering a remarkable boost of energy quickly after initial consumption, as well as a high that last for hours and melts you with its euphoric bliss.
Classified genetically as a sativa, this crop packs a lot of punch, but its makeup is not as pure as one may think. A slight indica background helps to provide Jock Horror with a better balance, as its numbers rate at a 70% sativa, 30% indica ratio. That certainly does not stop this cannabis strain from completely energizing and motivating anyone that consumes it, as its most dominant effect reported is euphoric energy, one that leaves you hungry in the end, like a well-worked jock after basketball practice. The parental lineage of this “still-growing-in-recognition” strain is impressive, as three notorious and well-respected marijuana types join hands to produce this beautiful not-so-little lady. Jock Horror was created through the combining of genetics from Northern Lights indica, Haze sativa and Skunk No.1 hybrid. The three parents of Jock are definitely household names, so we don’t doubt that with time, JH will soon become one too. Jock Horror’s THC levels are through the roof, ranking in at 18-24%.
The story of Jock Horror isn’t an impeccable one, but the effects of this marijuana strain certainly are. Additionally, it is rather rewarding to cultivate, and there’s a likely chance that you’ll be extremely tempted to sample your own product afterwards.
With an aroma that can be best described as crispy and fresh, the scent of Jock Horror marijuana is absolutely pungent, but not in the expected way. Yes, it does feature hints of skunk, which we know all too well from its parent plant “Skunk No. 1”, but the spectrum of its aroma does not simply halt there. Add in a heavy amount of berry and earthy top notes, and you’ve got yourself something extraordinary, unlike many marijuana strains tried before. The flavor of Jock Horror carries on the earthy and berry hints, but adds in a delicious and mouth watering level of sweetness, that hits the throat and tongue with a smooth, velvety smoke, leaving little residue and producing no coughing.
Those who can get their hands on Jock Horror cannabis have got it pretty good, and likely will rarely have another experience like the one from this crop. Appearance wise, Jock Horror is a sativa, so it grows extremely tall in height, often up to 3 meters high, with many tree-branch like colas that stick upfar into the clouds and are rather separate from one another in distance, looking much like the oddly shaped, larfy Christmas tree that you do not bring home to decorate. The buds themselves are more aesthetically pleasing, expressing shades of deep forest green, and sugar leaves that are so thickly coated with THC crystals, you sometimes can’t tell what color the herb is. All of this frost makes the buds plenty sticky, which can also imply, “difficult to trim and handle, but gets you unbelievably high.” In between the pungent, green sugar leaves are tightly curled, brassy orange pistils, that produce a much needed contrast against the forest shades. The buds are densely packed and offer plenty of THC, and therefore brilliant smokes or edibles.
Moderate in difficulty to cultivate, Jock Horror is not for beginners to produce, but is rewarding for those who can master its challenges. The most recent version of this marijuana strain available from Nirvana, was specifically designed with a higher yield and faster flowering period in mind, and this crop has rightfully achieved both. This marijuana can be grown in both indoor and outdoor settings, but the climate needs to be properly monitored so that no diseases, molds, mildews, pests, etc. attach themselves to the plants and ruin an entire harvest. Outdoors cultivation will only work if you are growing this crop in the appropriate climate, for it requires a warm, Mediterranean environment to thrive in.
This desire for dry heat can make indoor cultivation a little tricky, for humidity levels must be closely monitored and kept at a minimum. Adequate space indoors is also required; enough head room that could support a crop that sometimes reaches 3 meters in height. If you meet the climate control and space requirements, it is great to note that Jock Horror grows best in soil, where the flavor of the buds can have plenty of time to mature its taste and quality of flower. Hydroponics could, of course, be successful, but sometimes water methods do encourage or even promote humidity, which equals extra work and efforts in more area than one. The flowering period for Jock Horror is around 9-11 weeks, depending on preference, and harvest outdoors is usually sometime in early-late October. If you go through all the necessary difficulties of cultivating this crop, and come out the other end with a successful grow, you can expect to be rewarded for your hard earned efforts. The yield of JH is significant, with indoor grows offering anywhere from 12-15 ounces of dried herb per meter squared, and outdoor grows providing around 16 ounces per plant, all ready to be consumed after curing and jarring.
Some claim the effects of Jock Horror to be predominantly cerebral, but others do report there to be a noticeable effect on the body in regards to energy levels and physical motivation, tying the strain somewhat to its name (“Jock”). Mentally, this marijuana strain produces plenty of joy and happiness, often encouraging an onset of giggles and chattiness, as well as an increase in creative flow and artistic motivation. Jock Horror’s ability to enter the world of creative types, makes it a quintessential option for an art party or paint party, where you can pass this medicine around and share it with your friends that would likewise appreciate this flower.
In the end, most consumers can agree that this cannabis strain made them become very hungry, so be sure to have your fridge stocked and ready for the munchies that are about to hit hard. Body wise, although the limbs do become energized and functional, they likewise relax and become less stressed, melting into a more euphoric and blissful state. If something has got your body physically tied up in worries, Jock Horror could very well be your answer for relief, but you won’t know for sure until you try it.
Due to its appetite enhancing and mood uplifting effects, Jock Horror does serve as an adequate medicinal solution for some individuals, especially those who are dealing physically with fatigue , lack of appetite, stress, chronic pain and lack of motivation, as well as mentally with depression, anxiety, mental stress, bipolar and more. For those who are looking for a physical relief from one of the conditions listed above with the help of Jock Horror, it is ideal to consume a greater than average dose to fully reap in this cannabis’s benefits. Edibles, tinctures, concentrates, extracts and candies, as well as many others, are all options that are rich in high doses of THC, while still keeping consumption easy and effortless.
Those looking for mental relief should be a bit more wary with their dose. Marijuana is notorious for increasing paranoia and anxiety amongst individuals already diagnosed with a mental or mood disorder , regardless of the strain type, (although some can be a bit better than others). In order to avoid any unnecessary stresses or discomforts, start by knowing your limits with cannabis and sticking to those boundaries. It is perfectly acceptable to decide enough is enough and stop there. Consuming cannabis is a very personal journey, and it should be treated as such.
Luckily for those who love Jock Horror or are really stoked to give it a try, the adverse effects of this marijuana strain are few and far between, aside from the typical side effects that occur from almost every cannabis strain, which is predominantly dry mouth ( cottonmouth ) and dry eyes. Both of these occurrences can be conveniently contained, just with a little extra preparation and planning. Staying hydrated and drinking plenty of fluids before, during and after your high, can not only help prevent headaches or any grogginess the morning after, but it can also relieve any cottonmouth that has happened or will happen.
Dry eyes can be managed by purchasing moisturizing eye drops from your local drug store prior to consuming your cannabis. These eye drops are inexpensive and can be utilized multiple times, so that you’ll never have to suffer with uncomfortable dry or itchy eyes again. Paranoia, anxiety or dizziness are extremely uncommon and unreported from Jock Horror, so it should not be anything of concern. All in all, the positive effects of Jock Horror far outweigh the negatives, making this marijuana strain an outstanding option for beginning, intermediate and experienced consumers alike.
If you are a patient of medical marijuana or an appreciator of recreational cannabis dealing with the sometimes debilitating effects of lack of appetite, fatigue, depression , anxiety, stress, chronic pain, migraines, lack of motivation and more, and searching for an all-natural alternative to traditional medications, Jock Horror might be the right cannabis strain for you. We hope you found this article to not only be entertaining, but also educational and informative. It is important to remember that the consumption of marijuana is the sole responsibility of the user, and discretion should always be taken.

Indica / Sativa: Predominantly Sativa
So here is my Nirvana Jock Horror Grow. I will be updating it as I go along. First here is Nirvana’s description of the strain. Of course designed to sell seeds but independent research confirms it is a kick ass strain of weed.
Nirvana Jock Horror is a three-way marijuana hybrid of Northern Light, Skunk and Haze. Jock Horror produces so much resin that even its branches glisten with THC glands. This marijuana seeds variety has a unique fresh flavor and packs a strong “up” buzz. Our Jock cannabis seeds will finish flowering earlier than the original Jack Herer of a few years ago. This cannabis strain is definitely one of our all-time favorite marijuana seeds.
Just to clarify, this is definitely not the same strain as Sensi Seeds Jack Herer although it has similar genetics it is its own strain. Also it seems to lean heavily towards an indica growth pattern and not a sativa type plant.
I am growing in a homemade panda film grow tent measuring 2′ x 3′ x 6.5′. Lighting in veg is  225 watts of cfls  providing about 18,000 lumins. There is definitely no shortage of light for my four plants and node growth is incredibly close, in fact I wish it would have been a bit further apart. I will be adding a 400 watt hps light for flowering and will use the 2 cfls I have for side lighting.
I am growing in canna coco and using their line of nutes. Plants were started in 2″ square containers that were fairly deep and then transplanted to gallon containers. Root growth in the coco has been phenomenal and after 30 days from seed the plants are ready for larger pots.
Since I only have 4 plants I decided to grow them fairly large. There seems to be two phenotypes, one is strongly indica and the other seems to be a bit more sativa like with slightly longer and thinner leaves and slightly more open growth.
Growth has been so tight that there really hasn’t been any material to take clones from. Side branching is just starting to develop now at 30 days in veg but I don’t think clones would ever catch up to the other plants so I decided to grow with just 4 uniform plants.
So here’s my girls at just over 30 days. I have just reached in and fimmed them and hopefully I did it right so I will get more tops and direct some energy to the side branches that are developing. I may remove some of the fan leaves in a few days and my ladies will be going into 5 gallon containers too.
Here’s a picture a few days later. I am seeing multiple tops and side branches are starting to elongate. These girls definitely need larger pots. Right now they are under 24/0 lighting but when I drop to 16/8  I expect them to start to stretch quite a bit.

So now my plants are 45 days from seed. I have read the first 2 weeks they are considered seedlings so that means they are 30 days into the veg cycle.
The plants were repotted into 5 gallon containers and a homemade screen was placed over them. They have been growing under 24/0 lighting but have just been switched to 18/6. They are so bushy and tight noded that I am hoping this will allow them to stretch a bit more.
The two plants in front were transplanted several days ahead of the ones in back and the difference clearly shows. Plants have had excellent root development in cocoa and actually the back two were a bit root bound.
My girls are due for a haircut. I will be removing some of the lower fan leaves to get more light to the lower shoots. Hopefully they will elongate enough to reach the screen. I will probably take some clones at that time too.
My plants are now at 37 days into the veg cycle. I have removed some lower branches to let more light in and have begun training limbs in my scrog. The two plants in back are just now reaching the screen. They are extremely indica dominant and want to grow like Christmas trees. My other two jock horror plants have a bit more sativa dominance but still are very bushy. I could probably easily fill the screen with just those two alone.
I have added a fan for better circulation and a 150 w hps light. I will probably add another soon. I have more than enough light to flower but a bit more never hurts. If you are looking for a quiet and efficient fan I recommend the Ozeri Breza and you can read my review of the Ozeri Brezza grow room fan
I decided to use a mix of blue 6500k lighting and high pressure sodium. Currently I have just over 5000 lumins per square foot which is more than adequate. My reason for choosing smaller 150 watt hps lights has to do with less heat and better overall coverage coverage. So I will likely be adding a second and possibly a third hps light. Also I feel my plants will benefit from a wider spectrum of light than what hps can provide.
I think in the next week to 10 days my canopy will be full enough to switch to a 12/12 flowering cycle.
Well my Jock Horror is now at day 60 from seed and been in veg cycle for about 42 days. So today I flipped the switch and started 12/12 lighting and the flowering cycle.
I have added a second 150 watt HPS to help things along. I now have about 48,000 lumins in my grow tent which works out to 8,000 lumins per square foot which is plenty of light as 5,000 is generally considered adequate.
I probably could have gotten by with just the one HPS light but I wanted a higher ratio of red light for flowering. Adding the second light also increased inside temperatures. I will be installing an exhaust fan in the next few days.
I gave my plants a thorough trim below the scrog to make watering easier and although there is light penetrating all the way down I doubt those branches would have produced quality bud.
The scrog is filling out nicely and I expect stretch will continue for a couple of weeks. I am getting close to having a cola for each square in my scrog. There are 96 holes counting partial ones along the side and they are spaced on a 3″ x 3″ grid.
Nothing to do now but keep pulling branches under the scrog and wait for signs of the first flowers. To me this is where things really start to get exciting.
My plants have continued growing and filling out the scrog. It is a bit empty in the upper left corner because the plant there has a much more compact growth style than the others but the screen will soon be full.
I have cleaned up the underside of the scrog some more and have also removed some fan leaves from above for better light penetration. So here are some more pics of my girls. First is the underside and those look more like tree trunks than stems.
Here is a view from above. The plants are growing and stretching but so far growth has been very manageable.
Here’s a close up of the canopy growth
It has been a busy week. The girls are growing and flowering like crazy. They are drinking a lot more, about a half gallon a day per plant. I have raised my fan up to provide better airflow to the canopy.
So far Jock Horror has had very little odor. The only time I can really smell other than when I am working on it and brush the leaves, is a brief time right after the lights go off and even then only in the closet. I am aware we can get desensitized to smells so I will be installing a carbon filter this week, just as an added precaution.
Anyway  the screen is pretty much full. It is lower on the left side, I realized, because my four pots are not centered. They were placed far right to make room for my Ozeri Breza fan. My plants have short nodes and branches so it has been a bit of a stretch to fill this out but there are nice flowers forming even there.
Just a couple of general shots of my Jock Horror plants:
I am not a great photographer I am afraid, but I tried to get a more detailed view of the flowers here.
As you can see there if finally some flowering shoots in the upper left corner of the scrog.
There have been a lot of changes this week. As flowering continues trichomes are showing up on the new leaves. The look of the plants has changed radically. The bud leaves are long and sativa like and showing this plants genetics. Quite a change from the blocky indica leaves it had prior to flowering.
I have removed a bunch of fan leaves to allow more light at the flowers. I know removing fan leaves is controversial but I am growing bud and not leaf so anything that interferes with light to the flowers must go. These leaves transpire quite a bit and I noticed a 10% drop in humidity levels once they were gone.
Still feeding Canna A and B at about 15 ml gallon plus 3 ml GH cal mag. I will begin throttling back on the N and have added Canna PK 13/14 and  Canna Boost to the mix according to label directions.
Here’s this weeks pics. I tried to focus on the flowers in some pics but I am afraid with my skills as a photographer I did not do my plants justice.
Here’s an overhead shot of the canopy
Well my Jock Horror ladies are ready to start their 5th week in flower. The bud sites continue to grow. The top colas are still elongating at this point. Trichomes are becoming more visible on the leaves. So far I have not really seen any signs of the buds fattening and they still seem to be in a growth phase.
I gave my girls another pruning this week. I removed a considerable amount of fan leaves to get more light on the buds themselves. The increase in light penetration has actually resulted in some new flowering lower down. I am not sure if these buds will amount to much though.
I should be just about halfway through flowering at this point. Nirvana says 7 – 9 weeks flowering time and I think some of  these plants will go the full 9 weeks. There is always a lot of variation when growing from seed. Although all plants looked similar when put in the scrog, there are huge differences now. This is why the canopy is uneven.
You really can’t tell what you have until you flower your plants. The plant I thought best at first is now the least likely one I’ll keep. There is one plant in the upper right of the scrog that was really a sleeper. It is a bit later to flower than the others but has produced about a dozen very nice colas and appears more resinous than the others. My hands got really sticky from pruning it. I think at this point it may become my mother plant.
Here’s a view through the tent door
Looking directly into the grow tent
Well just about to start my 6th week of flowering. Up until now there has been very little smell from my Jock Horror but this week the smell has been much more prevalent. I have an Odor Sok installed and it seems to be working.
There will always be some smell inside the tent because that air has not yet been treated. The problem I have had with the Odor Sok is that it has cut back the output of my fan a bit, causing temperatures inside to rise to about 90 degrees.
I have started running my tent partly open and this helps but my other fan is blowing some of that untreated air into my apartment. It’s not bad but at times I can definitely get a whiff. So I have repositioned the fan to blow towards the back of the tent and set out some Ona Gel in my apartment.
Everything seems to be going well and the colas look good but still have a way to go before harvest. Nirvana says Jock Horror takes 9-11weeks to mature but I don’t think these plants will go the full 11 weeks. Here’s this weeks pics:
Fan relocated to blow to back of grow tent
As I head into week 7 things don’t really look much different at least from the photos I took but there are big changes going on. The plants are slowing down, using less water. The buds are filling out and firming up and are hard. I am starting to see signs of some yellowing on the leaves as the plants start to mature. Also I have turned my side lighting off during the past week. The plants don’t really need that blue spectrum light because they are not actively growing any more. I am also noticing slight browning on some of the flowers, another sign of maturing. I have been watching my trichomes but so far they all seem clear. I expect within the next 2 weeks it will be harvest time for my girls. Here’s this weeks pics:
Heading into week 8 things may not look noticeably different on camera. But the buds are fattening up and they are getting solid and pretty hard too. I have given them their last regular feeding and from here on out they will just be getting water and some molasses this week. I have been monitoring the trichomes for any signs of amber but have not found any. Jock can go 9 weeks according to Nirvana. I will keep monitoring but will probably chop at the end of week 9 regardless.
I sampled some trim last week with a friend and we both got a good buzz off a couple of tokes. Very cerebral high. Happy and upbeat with no couch lock. I wouldn’t want to smoke this before bed as it would probably keep you awake. Very good weed for work or daytime activities or parties though. This should be exceptional weed and based on the leaves we sampled I think the buds should be really dank.
Only one pic this week because things don’t really look that different and also because my cams batteries died.
I have been watching my plants closely and monitoring their trichome development. Growth has slowed and lower leaves have started to yellow. The plants are really sticky and stinky and I no longer see the buds fattening.
I have decided I would rather harvest a bit early to maintain that really nice up buzz Jock gives. So I have begun flushing my plants and at the end of the week they will get 2 days of darkness to help bring the resins up and then, chop chop.
Well the plants were chopped today after 9 full weeks, perhaps a bit early but I don’t think they needed the full 11 weeks. The smell was overpowering. Delightful piney fragrance that actually made me high. I got very light headed and actually had to take a few breaks along the way. The plants were extremely sticky, making trimming difficult. The scissors got so sticky all the leaves I cut would stick to them . In the end I dipped them in alcohol every few cuts to keep the gooey mess off them.
I had 4 plants, one of which didn’t do that much. When you grow from seed you will get some keepers and some losers. So here are some numbers for the green untrimmed chop:
Total green yield 81.8 ozs or 2315 grams
If I lose 80% of this weight from trimming and drying I would have 20.45 oz or 578.75 grams which would give me my goal of 1 pound or just over 1g per watt. I Will post pictures and final weights once everything is dried down.
Final yield was 10 oz of nugs plus small unweighed amount of trim. I didn’t reach my 1# goal but I knew I wouldn’t because one plant was small and wasn’t going to be a big producer. Still, Nirvana says yield is 350 – 450 (g/m² in SOG) and mine was 280 grams in half that space so I did OK. Plus the smoke is awesome!
I don’t think I did bad considering but I am going to choose a higher yielding strain with the same upbeat head buzz as the Nirvana Jock Horror.
I decided I want to try the real Jack Herer now to compare yield and quality with this grow. I will probably go with Sannies Jack Herer rather than Sensi’s.
I have heard really good things about Sannies Seeds and it seems he continues to stabilize the strain and work it. I feel like Sensi is just resting on their reputation and charging outrageous prices for this strain.
dang there looking nice i have a prepetual sog(ffof soil and the fox farm trio of nutes) going and there doing real good cant wait to smoke and teaste this strain
This Jock is really dank. Love the up buzz. The smell is kind of like pine and fuel and even in plastic bags you can still smell it. Def need good odor control although mine really didn’t start to smell until flowering
This guys is using miracle grow, DONT USE MIRACLE GROW!
Jock horror is the worst growing plant ever, super ph picky, hates nutes, shittiest plant in existence.
Fuck off Fuck off. I don’t know who is using miracle grow but it sure aint me. I admit there are much better strain choices but it was my first grow. I was a farmer for many years before growing weed and I had no trouble growing this strain. It was potent and sticky as hell and quite easy to grow. Maybe you need growing lessons.
