Jimmy Kimmel Announces Surprise Late-Night Retirement After 21 Years

In a shocking announcement on last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the beloved late-night host revealed that he will be stepping away from his long-running ABC show at the end of the 2024-2025 season.

'After 21 years of ridiculous monologues, awkward celebrity interviews, and my yearly tradition of traumatizing my kids on Halloween, I’ve decided it’s time to say goodbye,' Kimmel joked, before growing emotional. 'This show has been my life, but I want to spend more time with my family—and maybe finally get a full night’s sleep.'

Kimmel, who took over Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003, became one of late-night TV’s most influential figures, known for his sharp political satire, viral pranks (including the infamous 'I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy' bit), and heartfelt advocacy for healthcare reform following his son Billy’s congenital heart condition.

ABC has not yet announced a replacement, but rumors suggest a major shake-up in late-night TV could be coming. Kimmel’s final episode is set for July 2025, promising an all-star sendoff.
