Jimmy Awards 2025 Celebrates the Next Generation of Broadway Stars

New York, NY – June 30, 2025 – The 16th annual Jimmy Awards, officially known as the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, dazzled audiences last night at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City. The prestigious ceremony honored the nation’s most talented high school performers, culminating in a star-studded showcase of Broadway’s future.

Hosted by Tony Award-winning actor Ben Platt, the evening featured electrifying performances from 102 finalists, selected from over 1,500 participants in regional competitions across the U.S. The young artists competed for top honors in Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor, along with scholarships and professional opportunities.

And the Winners Are…

This year’s top prizes went to:

Sophia Rivera (San Diego, CA) – Winner, Best Performance by an Actress, for her stunning portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked.

Elijah Carter (Chicago, IL) – Winner, Best Performance by an Actor, for his powerful performance as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.

Both winners received $25,000 scholarships and will participate in a Broadway mentorship program.

Standout Moments

The ceremony included a special tribute to Lin-Manuel Miranda, who received the Inspiring Teacher Award for his dedication to arts education. Miranda delivered a heartfelt speech, urging young performers to 'keep telling stories that matter.'

A show-stopping group number, 'Raise Your Voice'—an original song written for the Jimmys—brought the audience to its feet, showcasing the ensemble’s incredible talent.

Industry Buzz

Scouts from major Broadway productions and top drama schools were in attendance, with many finalists already receiving callbacks. 'These kids are the future of theatre,' said veteran casting director Bernie Telsey.
