Dark Angel Wiki is a FANDOM TV Community.
Jessica Alba is an American actress, model, writer, and business woman. She is best known by Dark Angel fans for portraying Max Guevara . She also played Max's identical twin sister Sam in the season 2 episode " She Ain't Heavy ".

Born in Pomona, California, on April 28, 1981, Jessica Alba and her family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, when she was an infant. Three years later, her Air Force father brought the family back to California, then to Del Rio, Texas, before finally settling in Southern California when Jessica was nine. In love with the idea of becoming an actress from the age of five, she was 12 before she took her first acting class. Nine months later, she was signed by an agent. A gifted young actress, Jessica has already played a variety of roles ranging from light comedy to gritty drama since beginning her career. She made her feature film debut in 1993 in Hollywood Pictures' comedy Camp Nowhere (1994). Originally hired for two weeks, she got her break when an actress in a principal role suddenly dropped out. Jessica cheerfully admits it wasn't her prodigious talent or charm that inspired the director to tap her to take over the part - it was her hair, which matched the original performer's. The two-week job stretched to two months, and Jessica ended the film with an impressive first credit. Two national TV commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney quickly followed before Jessica was featured in several independent films. She branched out into TV in 1994 with a recurring role in Nickelodeon's popular comedy series " The Secret World of Alex Mack " (1994).

She played an insufferable young snob, devoted to making life miserable for the the title character, played by Larisa Oleynik. That same year, she won the role of "Maya" in " Flipper " (1995) and filmed the pilot for the series. She spent 1995 shooting the first season's episodes in Australia. An avid swimmer and PADI-certified scuba diver, Jessica was delighted to be doing a show that allowed her to play with dolphins. The show's success guaranteed it a second season, which she also starred in. Her involvement in the show lasted from 1995 to 1997. Since the show ended, she has appeared in a number of TV shows and films. In 1996, she appeared in Venus Rising (1995) as "Young Eve". The next year, she appeared on the " The Dini Petty Show " (1989), a Canadian talk show, and spoke about her role in " Flipper " (1995) and her general acting career. She began working on P.U.N.K.S. (1999), featuring Randy Quaid, in 1998. In early 1998, she appeared in " Brooklyn South " (1997) as "Melissa".

That same year, she was in two episodes of " Beverly Hills, 90210 " (1990) as "Leanne" and in two episodes of " The Love Boat: The Next Wave " (1998). She appeared in " Teen Magazine " in 1995 and various European magazines in the following several years. More importantly, she was featured in the February 1999 issue of "Vanity Fair" magazine. She also had major roles in two movies that year: Never Been Kissed (1999) and Idle Hands (1999). In 2000, she had roles in Paranoid (2000) and starred in the sci-fi TV series " Dark Angel " (2000).

'Dark Angel' is a FOX series that never gathered more than a cult following, yet ages very well and plays much better on DVD than it ever did on TV. 'Dark Angel' details the partnership between a genetically enhanced warrior on the lam and a partially handicapped vigillante who uses his computer rather than a gun as a weapon. It's worth your while for three very good reasons. First, there's Jessica Alba, who plays the heroine Max. 'Dark Angel' perfectly matches Alba's strengths and weaknesses as an actress and - unlike most of Alba's movie roles - makes her look exceptionally confident and skilled. Watching 'Dark Angel,' it's easy to believe Alba has a long future ahead of her as an actress - which is something you don't feel when watching her movies like 'Honey' and 'Idle Hands.' Secondly, there's Michael Weatherly, who plays cyberjournalist Logan Cale. He's a good, charismatic actor with the smarts to underplay his role, which gives credibility to even some of the comic-book dialogue. Lastly, there's James Cameron's input as producer; you may remember him as the creator of the Terminator films, along as the director of 'Aliens' and 'Titanic.' Naturally, although Cameron's input is minimal, the series has some of Cameron's slightly futuristic cyberpunk feel. Most of the episodes are good, action-packed, escapist adventures, though considerably more downbeat and realistic than most other sci-fi series. No aliens, no reincarnation storylines, and no cute robots! Throughout the first half of the series, Max is almost constantly tracked by a sinister government agent from her past, and this lends the early episodes a constantly anxious atmosphere. If the series could be compared to any other recent shows, the comparisons would be fairest with 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Smallville.' If you like either show, you will probably enjoy 'Dark Angel.' Like those shows, 'Dark Angel' boasts several varied and extremely entertaining supporting characters and loose story arcs. I can watch two-to-three episodes of 'Dark Angel' in one sitting, which I can't do for many sci-fi series. As the series progresses, there are some weak episodes, but the good outweighs the bad in this package. The extras aren't anything to get excited about, but it's certainly nice to have a few mini-documentaries, outtakes and commentary tracks. Most TV boxed sets have very limited extras at best, so the extras on this set are actually pretty decent for a TV show. Be warned, however, that although a second box set exists, the show was radically changed in the second season. Cameron ditched most of the supporting players and started over in an 'X-Men' style, including more wisecracks and bizarre mutants, and less of the grit that made Series One special. Much of the menace was removed once Max and Logan faced newer, more comedic adversaries. Not surprisingly, Season Two was the last for this series. Still, we'll always have Season One to cherish, and can hope that one day Cameron will revive the idea for a feature film. Best of luck to you, Jessica and Michael, and thanks for being a part of our lives by starring in this show.

I had never watched Dark Angel during its short run on FOX. I'm a big Cameron fan, but mixed reviews and lack of interest on my part kept me from giving it a shot. I didn't even know the show had been cancelled when the first season popped up in stores on DVD. One thing I love about DVD is the chance to experience full seasons of TV shows in one big serving. I've become a Buffy/Angel addict, had the chance to collect all The X-Files (which I watched religiously since it first aired when I was a kid) and have also discovered great shows like Felicity, Six Feet Under, and The Shield. I've always been a huge movie buff but I've found that television done right can be much more satisfying than any film. Stories unfold like novels and characters develop in ways that films just can't match. Greg Berlanti's new show Everwood that's on the WB is a good example of this. Hands down, that show is superior to 90% of the garbage at theaters this year. Which brings me to Dark Angel. As an Amazon addict, I read countless reviews before deciding whether or not to buy movies and TV shows I haven't seen before. I'm fairly busy, I'm a writer/director and I run a production company in Los Angeles, and usually don't have the time to post my own thoughts. But I feel Dark Angel merits a post to hopefully get more folks to give this show a shot. After reading a ton of reviews on various DVD sites and here on Amazon, I purchased the set. Based on the comments online, all seeming to either love the show or loathe it, I really wasn't sure what to expect. The set arrived and it sat on my desk for a week or two before I even popped it in. Some free time came up and in a very short perod of time I watched the whole series, mostly late at night on my PC. Some albums, movies and TV shows come into your life at the right time and fill a void or make you feel a certain way. I don't
