Jennifer Esposito thought she was going to get treated for a physical illness when she sought medical help after her tooth inexplicably fell out.
But the 43-year-old - who has spoken candidly about her struggle with Celiac Disease - has now recalled the terrifying moment that she was instead put under psychiatric evaluation.
Jennifer appears on Saturday's episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, and in a clip obtained by People she can be seen discussing the ordeal.

The actress revealed that Melissa McCarthy told her to seek medical assistance when they were working together on sitcom Samantha Who?, which ran from 2007 to 2009.
'A tooth fell out of my mouth in the middle of a scene on Samantha Who? And Melissa McCarthy says to me, "Something is wrong, you are ill,"' Jennifer said.
In response, the ex-wife of Bradley Cooper told the 46-year-old: 'I know. But what do you do when people aren't listening?'
Jennifer shared: 'And I went back to this doctor and I said, "Please, I need help. Please keep me here because I'm jumping out of my skin." I thought I was going to be checked into the hospital and they checked me into the psych ward.
Sharing her story: The actress talks about her ordeal on Saturday's episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?
'And I'm thinking, "How did I get here? This is a problem with my system. This is not a problem with my brain."'
Jennifer added: 'I mean, I was almost dead – my hair was falling out, my eyelashes fell off, my fingernails were falling off. I was bad.'
Last year, the Affair star released the book Jennifer's Way: My Journey with Celiac Disease.

She has since opened the organic Jennifer's Way Bakery in New York City, which sells treats that are free of gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar or peanuts.
On the Jennifer's Way website, the Blue Bloods star revealed that she spent years suffering from 'constant stomach problems, raging panic attacks, joint pain, knees buckling, extreme weakness, yellowing of my skin, extreme sinus headaches, numbness, tingling, and hair and nails so weak they would just break off'.
She also developed a 'huge lump' on her neck and said she would sleep for 13 hours a night and still be exhausted.

Jennifer explained that before she was diagnosed with Celiac, doctors often assumed she was suffering from depression when they couldn't figure out their symptoms.
'How is it when doctors can’t figure out your symptoms it somehow becomes your mind? I was so tired of explaining and begging people to help me. I felt so ignored!' she wrote.
'I’M NOT CRAZY! PLEASE DON’T SEND ME AWAY WITH A PRESCRIPTION FOR VALIUM AND A NUMBER OF YOUR FAVORITE THERAPIST!! I DON’T NEED ANTIDEPRESSANTS, I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!! Nothing, silence, a small sigh is all that came out of me, that and tears.'
