I am currently an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Dr. Kelly Dorgan’s lab. We are working to resolve the phylogeny of the annelid order Eunicida, and investigate the evolution of jaw structure and function.
I received my Ph.D. in 2019 from the University of Florida, supervised by Dr. Gustav Paulay, curator of marine malacology at the Florida Museum of Natural History. My dissertation research focused on the phylogeny, systematics, and integrative taxonomy of Chaetopteridae, a beautiful and bizarre family of marine Annelida.
Because so little is known about many marine invertebrate groups, it is often necessary to start at the beginning - how many species are there? How are these species distributed in the world's oceans? How are they related to one another? Answering these questions allows us to broaden our investigations from systematics and taxonomy to using phylogenies to answer questions about the historical patterns and processes driving the evolution of these groups. I am particularly interested in using phylogenies to reconstruct the evolution of functional morphological traits.
