Jason Momoa in Talks to Star In Upcoming Minecraft Movie


Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to appear in a Warner Bros. live-action Minecraft film The studio confirmed the news on Tuesday.

The film, which is inspired by the popular 2011 video game directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre). Momoa also played Aquaman in Warner Bros.' Dune. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported the Minecraft news.

A Minecraft movie was first revealed to be in the works at Warner Bros. more than eight years ago. The initial release date for Minecraft was March 4 2022. However, the date was postponed indefinitely because of the pandemic. The movie has not been updated.

Minecraft one of the most popular games ever allows players to explore 3D worlds where they can extract materials, craft items and construct structures. The live-action movie will join many other video game-based movies that have been released in recent times which include Sonic the Hedgehog (and its sequel), Uncharted and 2021's Mortal Kombat.

The film's producers include Lydia Winters and Vu Bui of Minecraft developer Mojang Studios. Roy Lee and Mary Parent are also producing. Jill Messick, who was a producer on the film prior to her passing in 2018, will be given an honorary posthumous acknowledgment for her work. Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts are the film's executive producers. Online Games Jon Berg is also a producer.
