People all over the world have physical needs, and sometimes the easiest means of taking care of those needs is helped by watching adult entertainment. Japan is no exception to that, although when it comes to entertainment for Japanese women, things are a little different.
Brace yourselves: we are about to dive into the culture of porn for women in Japan.
AV simply stands for adult videos (JAV—Japanese adult videos) and is part of the wider pornography industry in Japan, which includes online content, books, magazines, and clubs of varying types. As of the time of writing, there are nearly 50,000 hits for "Japanese" alone on Pornhub, and there are scores of subtypes to that category.
One of the most well-known aspects of AV in Japan is the use of a mosaic filter to cover private parts. Until the mid-nineties, it was illegal to show pubic hair in lawfully produced porn of any type. After that, the law was reinterpreted to require blurring of all private parts during sexual contact—including oral, anal, or vaginal intercourse.
The vast majority of AV produced in Japan are for male consumption, but there’s been a growing trend towards movies for women in recent years.
As well they should. According to past surveys in anan , 94% of Japanese women aged 18-40 “take time for themselves” from two to three times a week, and “sometimes more if their partner isn’t doing the job” (M, Japanese woman).
Sex sells—though how it’s used varies widely in Japan. On the one hand, men can easily walk into any convenience store or bookstore and find magazines with scantily clad real and anime women gazing back at them, when finding the same materials for women can take some work.
The main impetus behind the women’s AV industry stemmed from anan magazine , which releases an annual sexual health guide. These guides are packed with survey results on sex, love, and romance, guides to improving techniques for male and female partners, and a free DVD of clips of recent, popular videos for women.
Of course, these editions fly off the shelves for another reason: their covers feature one of the currently trending Japanese talents in rather risque poses. Often these photoshoots include a female partner, and last year was another first—that edition featured a Western female partner.

How far behind (pun intended) the times can you be?
In my younger days, I definitely experienced a lot of women who were interested in sex, so it is correct to say that an interest in sex is not just a male thing. What I do not have any experience with is women being interested in porn. Not saying it doesn't happen, but have never seen it happening, or heard about it. I guess we need to hear from more women about this subject.
If women want to watch porn & have more geared to their likes I say go for it, no big deal.
But most know that men are MUCH more stimulated by the visual aspects than women so not really surprising if women are less interested.

It's only "easy" for women if they are not choosy. For evolutionary reasons, women tend to be more choosy given the potentially permanent impact of copulation.
But there is no reason to suggest that this is why women consume less porn.
But I thought the modern J-woman was more focused on career and friends than sex life.
That's one of the better euphemisms I've heard for spanking the monkey. Very delicate.

Horse hockey. My own mother told me there's been dumb 'boyfriend talk', 'nurses sharing stories', woman's locker room stories, and when I was in the Navy the women personnel gabbed all the time about the men they meet and see.
Maybe it's different in Japan but this is what I've observed - esp. in America.

Online Culture Differences
Americans are used to thinking about popularity in terms of English language brand giants like Google and eBay, but abroad many of those big names are sideshows.
To illuminate that, a few weeks ago we ranked the Top Ten Most Popular Websites in China . This week we turn our attention to Japan and what sites Alexa lists as the online hotspots there.
Similar to China, search engines and infotainment web portal sites are the biggest players, while only one online shopping site broke the Top 10. However, Japanese social network leader Mixi should be at the top if Japanese users behaved as Chinese users, but instead Mixi lags at #8.

This further highlights the ways Chinese and Japanese culture, entrepreneurship, and online business are different – a caution sign to anyone lumping them together in their branding or marketing plans.
1. Yahoo.co.jp
Yahoo is much stronger in Japan then Google – the global percentage of Internet users who visit yahoo.co.jp is about 5 % daily . Much of this stems from the popularity of Yahoo’s sub-brand sites such as Yahoo! Auction (Japan’s #1 auction site), Yahoo! Travel, and Yahoo! Weather.

Google’s multilingual search engine has not risen substantially in popularity over the years, despite several attempts to raise its profile in Japan. Yahoo’s quicker market entry and focus on partnership building helped Yahoo! Japan establish a decisive foundation. However, Google Map’s street view launch in 2009 did much to boost their appeal in Japan.

A free and easy to use website creation and blog hosting company. Hovering somewhere between Big Daddy and Blogger FC2 has stealthy crept upward in the rankings beating out companies that have much better brand recognition to break the top 3.
4. Youtube.com
YouTube is an area Google has had success in, managing to dislodge the native video website NicoNico Douga , which suffered due to copyright issues that YouTube was faster to contain and solve. The percent of global Internet users who visit youtube.com daily is about 23% and 8% of those are Japanese Youtube site visits.
5. Rakuten.co.jp
Rakuten is like Amazon and eBay rolled into one – the juggernaut is Japan’s focal point for ecommerce and has made its founder Hiroshi Mikitani one of the top ten Internet billionaires. The portal now boasts 30,000 stores and over 7 million registered users. Rakuten also has strong sub-brands such as Rakuten Travel and Rakuten Finance.

A Japanese free blog site that has been quick to innovate as new trends have cropped up. In December 2o09 it launched Ameba Now , a micro-blogging platform to compete with Twitter Japan, and just launched in March 2010 its Flash-based avatar app for Facebook called Ameba Pico .
7. Livedoor.com
It is said over three million Japanese use livedoor blog site.Percent of global Internet users who visit livedoor.com is close to 1.2% daily . This search engine and information portal became famous primarily due to ex-CEO Takafumi Horie .
8. Mixi.jp
Japan’s native and most popular social networking site has easily maintained its lead over Facebook (ranked #31), despite Facebook’s technical prowess. Facebook is a prime example of a company that waited too long to jump into the Japanese market and has struggled nightly against Mixi’s position.
However, Facebook’s influence is finally being seen at Mixi, which made the rare move of altering its business model by opening up their community to outside app developers, albeit in a limited way. In 2009 Mixi introduced social gaming, which have helped it stay on top as the #1 social networking site in Japan.
9. Google.com
When you search Google.com in Japanese using only Chinese-derived characters, you hardly find any Japanese sites in the results. Given that expats only make up a fraction of Japan’s population, this means Japanese are conducting searches in English at a high rate, something also reflected in China. The percent of global Internet users who visit google.com is about 30-42% daily.
10. Wikipedia.org
The Japanese are some of the most loyal users and avid editors of Wikipedia with over 40% accessing the site every week .

A missing Japanese porn star was found dead earlier this month — naked and tied to a tree in a remote forest, according to reports.
Rina Arano’s body was found on June 14 on a slope less than a mile off a road near the villa belonging to 33-year-old Hiroyuki Sampei, who was arrested in her disappearance, the Japan Times reported.
The Sun reported a police statement that said, “Rina Arano was tied to a tree without clothes and has been dead for almost two weeks.”
Investigators believe Arano and Sampei met at a train station in Ibaraki Prefecture on June 5 after the two exchanged private messages on Twitter, according to the Japan Times.
Arano was reported missing on June 8 by family.
After Sampei picked up Arano, he drove her to his villa in Hitachiota, police said.
Sampei was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and confining Arano, the outlet reported.
Police said Sampei admitted to bringing Arano to his vacation home but denied forcing her to stay there, Japan Today reported . He also said he handcuffed her briefly, but did it with her consent, police said.
Sampei told police he’s not sure where Arano went after she left his home, though her cellphone was found inside his home, according to Japan Today.
No external injuries were found on her body and an autopsy will be done to determine her cause of death, the outlet reported.
