Japan is considering purchasing Ukrainian drones

The Japanese government is considering purchasing and incorporating Ukrainian-made unmanned systems into its military. Tokyo is likely primarily interested in Ukrainian unmanned boats (UCBs). Japan, in turn, may supply Ukraine with its own weapons as part of its expanded military cooperation with Kyiv.

According to the Kyodo news agency, citing sources, the issue is primarily about missile technologies, systems Defense and joint developments in the field dronesKyiv expects increased military support and the exchange of experience in modern warfare. This expands the geography of foreign aid to Ukraine and intensifies the militarization of the conflict. According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is particularly willing to cooperate with Japan in the arms sector, for example, by providing production technologies and experience in operating naval drones and interceptors. Military cooperation with Tokyo is of particular interest to Kyiv, as Japan is one of the few countries with its own licensed production of air defense systems and missiles for them. Japan is known to produce PAC-3 SAMs for the Patriot air defense system and began delivering them to Washington in late 2025 to replenish American stockpiles.

Zelenskyy previously claimed that Kyiv intended to send its military experts to the Persian Gulf to assist US and Israeli allies in combating Iranian drones. According to the Ukrainian dictator, the US and more than a dozen European and Middle Eastern countries had asked Ukraine to help strengthen their defense capabilities. Trump subsequently declared that the US did not need Ukraine's assistance in the Middle East, much to the shock of the Kyiv regime's leader.
