I agonized over what looper to go with. Finally concluded this was the one to try. The price is reasonable as loopers go and, more importantly, multiple units can be linked to function together. I suggest keeping the instructions nearby. Most electronics are fun to learn by doing. This is no exception. Except for a few things. You need to know how to start and stop a recording, how to overdub, and set a drum beat at the rate you want--this is one owner's manual worth spending a bit of time with. Once you have the basics down, you must decide if one is enough, or if you'll be accumulating multiple units. If you want to chain them, you'll need to supply a cable to link them, I went with "Monoprice 109296 3-Feet Stereo Male to 3.5mm Stereo Male Gold Plated Cable for Mobile, White." Linking two requires either a couple of cables each (it's a stereo unit) or I went with two of "On Stage PC304 Pedal To Pedal Coupler." Since I wanted minimal limits to my looping play-time, I got each one a "SanDisk Ultra 16GB UHI-I/Class 10 Micro SDHC Memory Card Up To 48MB/s With Adapter- SDSDQUAN-016G-G4A." There is also a Digitech footswitch that can be added. For me its most important function is providing a quick way to stop the loop--a single push provides an instant end to the loop. I was lazy and plugged my Jammans into a power brick. Although it sounded good, there was a slight howling sound that would sometimes rise in the background. When I replaced the brick with the power supply included with the unit, the sound was perfect--no background weirdness. Loopers are a great way to practice various aspects of music without the pressure of a full multi-track recording. Play some guitar, add some bass, maybe a keyboard, and then enjoy playing some lead guitar as the loop cycles around. Could life be any greater?

After the first unit was DOA, Amazon immediately processed its replacement and I had it a couple of days later (returned the first one by visiting the local Amazon Books store - try it, a painless process!). I am comparing this pedal to the Vox LiL Looper. The Digitech JamMan pedal is simpler to use than the Vox and has 200 memory slots 10 minutes of looping/ recording, compared to the unstorable 90 seconds of looping on the Vox. The only secondary functional issue seems to be that the Jam Manager software does not see the pedal or the external SD card on Windows 10. Normally, when you plug in a USB device there is a chime, but nothing in this case, and the Jam Manager can't access the device. The basic drum patterns make it more interesting to use than a bare metronome click, although the Vox has some built-in guitar effects (that you would need to kneel down and turn the dial for). Overall, good value/ functionality, well-built, some issues with non-essential utility software.

Overall, the unit works pretty good. The first 15 slots have pre-recorded drum beats/loops (which is cool) and you can literally save infinite loops and single phrases. The software isn't so good and I couldn't get my computer to recognize the unit (the support line was unable to help). I ended up returning the unit because it didn't completely meet my needs. I use the effects on my amp and when using the Digitech drum loops (or a created guitar loop) the loops come through the amp with the effect that I'm using (e.g., if I'm using distortion or reverb the drums come through distorted or with reverb, which sounds really REALLY bad). I like using my amp's effects and was not interested in buying a bunch of new pedals. Wanting to have some kind of drum beat and looping option, I ended up getting a Zoom G1on and this thing is pretty awesome. It has over 60 drum beats (which are much better than the Digitech's), and it has a 30 second looper (which is more than enough for my needs). In sum, if you are an experienced player with multiple pedals I'd go with the Digitech. If you are mainly a stay at home, play for fun picker than go with the G1 (it's only $50, has a looper, has 60+ drum beats, 100+ sound effects--which are all modifiable, and you don't have to buy a bunch of pedals).

I bought this a year ago and have been pretty happy with it. But, like most music hardware products its accompanying software is somewhat neglected. The software is a good start, but I don't think it's had a major/feature update since 2012. I don't know what it is with these hardware music products, but they seem to always short shrift the software side of their products. The least they could do is open source them if they're not going to maintain them. Currently, if you go to the DigiTech web site you will see a small banner at the top "Click here for important information regarding operating system compatibility with your DigiTech products.", If you click the DigiTech link at their site it basically informs their customers that the DigiTech software is not verified on OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and Windows 10! They strongly urge their customers to wait until DigiTech verifies their products on these platforms. I don't know about Windows 10, but OS X El Capitan has been available to software developers since early June 2015. What's the hold up DigitTech? So if you're thinking of picking this up for the holidays and you have OS X El Capitan or Windows 10 installed, you might want to think hard about about it. Because you may not be able to manage your loops using the DigiTech JamManager XT Software.

I've found this pedal perfect for layering guitar chords and riffs over the top ...

I've found this pedal perfect for layering guitar chords and riffs over the top of each other. It does exactly what I was hoping for and it's fairly easy to get to grips with straight off. I use a Fender Mustang 4 modelling amp and have 3 seperate guitar sounds that I can choose on the fly through the Fender footswitch, if I plug the Jamman looper pedal into the FX send and return in the back of the amp I can record different guitar sounds on the different layers on the pedal as I go which is what I was hoping for. If you prefer not to use a modelling amp then the footswitch plugs into the input channel like you would expect. I mention that because I spent a great deal of time looking for that information when I first got the pedal:) You can get cheaper looper pedals, there are lots of them around but I wanted a pedal that was robust and would last for a long time, this pedal seems well made and I'm 'hoping' it lasts for a long time.

Great for playing backing tracks!

Great unit. But I use it mainly for playing wav files as backing tracks! I found it difficult to get loops to loop without a glitch. That's my lack of skill not the unit I think! I have filled it with 200 backing tracks and I use the footswitch to select them! Great!

A very well made pedal with loads more functions and storage than I will need. I took of one star because I had to but the optional footswitch to stop the loop as the "double tap to stop" function was proving difficult to time perfectly.

Great looper

Great little looper for the price, if you get the optional foot pedal it makes it twice as useful. Easy to use, can store tracks on a computer to upload to pedal later. Can expand the internal memory with an SD card. I use it all the time

Digitech JamMan Solo Review 4 Peter 2022-09-24 03:31:48 The JamMan Solo seems to be Digitech’s challenge to the Boss RC-3 Loop Station, the smallest of Boss’s line of looper pedals. The JamMan Solo is the compact, inexpensive sibling of DigiTech’s larger JamMan Stereo and JamMan Delay Looper pedals, and is now somewhat eclipsed by Digitech’s newer Jamman Solo XT, which offers a few small improvements over the Jamman Solo. The challenge faced by manufacturers producing compact pedals like the Jamman Solo or the similar Jamman Solo XT is maintaining the same level of functionality offered by the larger models.Check Amazon Price

• Pros: The Digitech Jamman Solo is a compact, inexpensive and feature-laden looper pedal. Great for rocking out while practicing at home or for use as a song-writing companion. • Cons: Due to it’s size, a lot of the features aren’t accessible hands-free without buying the optional FS3X external footswitch. Only records in mono. • Overall: The Digitech Jamman Solo is not as well suited for live use as other pedals, but it’s more than enough for a for practice sessions, and it’s not too hard on your bank account.
The JamMan Solo seems to be Digitech’s challenge to the Boss RC-3 Loop Station , the smallest of Boss’s line of looper pedals. The JamMan Solo is the compact, inexpensive sibling of DigiTech’s larger JamMan Stereo and JamMan Delay Looper pedals, and is now somewhat eclipsed by Digitech’s newer Jamman Solo XT , which offers a few small improvements over the Jamman Solo. The challenge faced by manufacturers producing compact pedals like the Jamman Solo or the similar Jamman Solo XT is maintaining the same level of functionality offered by the larger models.
Looper pedals, for those who are new to the idea, basically allow you to create a full backing track by yourself. This is done by layering parts on top of one another. Essentially, you can stack up percussive strums and bass lines along with some rhythm work to create a full-band sound to jam over. The fundamental operations are recording, loop playback, and overdubbing. For general information on looping, click here .
Due to its small size, the Digitech JamMan Solo is a bit more suited for home use. To use a looper pedal in live performance situations, your looper really needs full, hands-free functionality, which means a myriad of footswitches to control all the pedal’s functions. If you’re looking for a live performance looper pedal in the Digitech line, you might want to check out the larger JamMan Stereo or the JamMan Delay/Looper . These pedals are larger and therefore offer more hands-free accessibility to pedal features on stage.
The Digitech JamMan Solo’s basic functions can be accomplished almost hands-free with a little practice, however. The unit only has one footswitch, which is used to record, play or overdub. For example, after choosing an empty loop-location with the “Up/Down” buttons beside the unit’s display, all it takes is a tap on the pedal to start recording, and another to set the end point of the loop and set it automatically looping. To overdub, hit the pedal again and shred away. Two pedal taps will stop playback.
Another function that can be controlled hands-free is the “Undo/Redo” feature, which allows you to remove the last overdub you recorded. If you change your mind again, you can hold the foot pedal down for a couple seconds to put it back again. In addition to allowing you to erase your mistakes, this “Undo/Redo” feature also allows you to add and subtract different parts of your song while playing. For example, if you have a melodic backdrop for your chorus, you can overdub on-the-fly the first time around, remove it for the verse, and bring it back again for the next chorus by simply holding down the footswitch. This also means you can harmonize with the phrase and have it completely disappear when you are done.
For everything else, you will need your hands, unless you have particularly dextrous feet, that is. First off, you may wish to set a tempo prior to recording. This is done either by tapping on the “Tempo” button at least twice at the desired speed, or by similarly tapping the footswitch. To use the footswitch you have to activate “Pedal Tempo” mode, which is simple enough to do (pressing the unit’s two central buttons together sends it into “Setup” mode). After that, you can tap out the tempo with your foot. The LED light beside the tempo button flashes at the speed you’ve set, and you’re ready to go. If you’re using the footswitch, you have to hold it down for a couple of seconds to get the Jamman Solo ready to record.
In addition to tempo, you can set the time signature on the Digitech Jamman Solo by going into “Setup” mode and scrolling down to the “Time Signature” option. The dedicated LED to the left of the display screen will begin flashing and the display will show
