Nude photos of Jackie Kennedy that surfaced in the early 70s were allegedly leaked to the public by her husband, Aristotle Onassis, as part of a smear campaign against her. The Daily Mail reports that the First Lady, known after her 1968 marriage to Onassis as "Jackie O," was photographed without her permission while sunbathing nude on the beach.

Excerpts from The Good Son , published earlier this week in the New York Daily News , tells how Onassis cheated on Jackie right from the day one of their marriage. His affair with opera singer Maria Callas was something Aristotle didn't hide from the public, but Jackie's divorce threats reportedly angered him enough to publicly shame his wife in the media with nude beach pictures that were seen around the world.

Instead of going after the very people he supposedly told to take the photos, Anderson writes that Aristotle instead went directly to his lawyer, Roy Cohn, and told him that he was divorcing Jackie. He agreed to give Jackie an extra $1 million in addition to the $3 million in the couple's prenup, but allegedly stated that was all "The Widow" would get, and "not one penny more."

After Onassis died, Jackie Kennedy lived in New York and worked as a book editor for Doubleday. On May 19, 1964, almost 20 years after Aristotle died, Jackie died at the age of 64, just months after being diagnosed with cancer.

The infamous nude pictures of Jackie Kennedy Onassis on a beach that caused a media storm in 1972 were part of a widespread smear campaign by her own husband, a new book reveals.
The former First Lady married Greek tycoon Aristotle 'Ari' Onassis in 1968 after he wooed her with gifts and declarations of love.
But throughout the turbulent four-year marriage Ari pursued his not-so-secret affair with opera singer Maria Callas - while allegedly using his press contacts to publicly humiliate Jackie for stepping out of line.
Smear: Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis tipped off media before Jackie stripped off on a beach, a book reveals
Turbulent: He wooed the former First Lady into marriage in 1968 (pictured) but it was rocky from the start
The revelation comes from noted Kennedy author Christopher Andersen in his upcoming book The Good Son: JFK Jr. and the Mother He Loved.
The biography about Jackie's son describes how Ari bullied his new wife - constantly deriding her as 'The Widow' during interviews, according to an excerpt published by the New York Daily News .
Anderson describes the fatal moment that crushed their relationship in 1972: tired of Jackie suing the media for invasion of prviacy, Ari gave ten photographers detailed maps and time plans of when 'The Widow' would be on the beach in Skorpios.
The nude shots splashed all over magazines and newspapers worldwide, earning Jackie the moniker 'Billion Dollar Bush', and affording her children years of cruel bullying.
Affair: He dined with opera singer Maria Callas after Jackie's private letters to another man were exposed
'His real wife': He started pursuing Callas within weeks of marrying Jackie and kept up the liaison throughout
In public: When photographers were about, Onassis played stepfather to John F Kennedy Jr (pictured)
It was the final hit after years of public disputes between the couple.
From the moment they married, he left her alone and upset for two weeks as he jetted around Europe on 'business'.
When Jackie's private letters to Roswell Gilpatric were exposed in 1970 - including one written days after their wedding - Ari publicly dined with Maria Callas in Paris, and tipped off photographers.
Doomed: Ari left Jackie alone and upset for two weeks after their wedding day while he jetted about Europe
The last straw: He ended their marriage in 1972 after the nude images caused a global media storm
'Dearest Ros,' she had written, 'I would have told you before I left - but then everything happened so much more quickly than I'd planned. I saw somewhere what you had said and I was touched - dear Ros - I hope you know all you were and are and will ever be to me - With my love, Jackie.'
It hurt Ari's pride and he was fully aware that the pictures of him with Callas - 'his real wife' - would be snapped up by US newspapers.
But he gleefully boasted about his own dalliances, once telling Johhny Meyer: 'Everybody here knows three things about Aristotle Onassis.
'I'm f***ing Maria Callas, I'm f***ing Jacqueline Kennedy - and I'm f***ing rich.'

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill’s relationship was notoriously rocky , with the siblings often sparring to gain favor with their mother, Janet Auchincloss.

The former first lady was once shocked, however, to learn Lee divulged one of her most guarded secrets to the family matriarch.

In a new book, Jackie, Janet and Lee — excerpted in last week’s issue of PEOPLE — author J. Randy Taraborrelli recounts the incident, which occurred after Jackie had sex for the first time.

“Jackie, when she was a teenager, lost her virginity to somebody in Paris in an elevator,” he tells PEOPLE Now in an interview that aired Tuesday. “It wasn’t the most romantic experience but it was a good one for her and she was really happy that she had it.”

Though Jackie “really didn’t want her mother to know about it,” she made the mistake of confiding in her sister Lee.

Lee only used Jackie’s secret against her, telling Janet about what happened.

“Jackie was very disappointed in her sister for doing that but she also understood it,” Taraborrelli says. “Because she knew what it was like to want to win points with Janet, and the sisters if they had some kind of information that they could use to curry favor with Janet, they would use it.”

Also in his interview with PEOPLE Now, Taraborrelli reveals that Jackie and Marilyn Monroe didn’t just share a love for Jackie’s husband President John F. Kennedy (allegedly) — they also shared a therapist.

“Jackie was suffering from an extreme case of PTSD, she was not in her right mind. She was having nightmares, she was drinking, she was talking about suicide,” he says. “She went into therapy [and] strangely enough, she ended up with Marilyn Monroe’s therapist — which blows my mind.”
