BREAKING: Jack O’Connell Set to Star in New Gritty Crime Thriller 'Blackheart'

Acclaimed British actor Jack O’Connell (Skins, Unbroken, Lady Chatterley’s Lover) has been tapped to lead the cast of Blackheart, an upcoming neo-noir crime thriller from director David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water, Outlaw King).

According to industry sources, O’Connell will play Danny Blackheart, a disgraced former detective dragged back into London’s criminal underworld when his estranged brother is murdered. The film, described as a 'brutal, high-stakes revenge saga,' is set to begin filming this summer in the UK.

Mackenzie, who previously directed O’Connell in Starred Up (2013) and ’71 (2014), praised the actor’s intensity: 'Jack brings a raw, visceral energy to every role. Danny Blackheart is a complex, morally ambiguous character, and there’s no one better to bring him to life.'

The screenplay, penned by BAFTA-nominated writer Alice Birch (Normal People, The Wonder), promises a gripping mix of brutal action and psychological depth. Rumors suggest Blackheart could be the first in a potential franchise if successful.

Fans of O’Connell’s work have taken to social media to express excitement, with one tweeting: 'Jack O’Connell in another Mackenzie film? This is going to be ELECTRIC.'

No release date has been set, but insiders suggest a late 2026 premiere is likely.
