Jack Nicklaus Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at 2024 Masters Ceremony

AUGUSTA, Ga. — April 10, 2024

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during a special ceremony at Augusta National ahead of the 2024 Masters Tournament.

The 84-year-old icon, an 18-time major champion and six-time Masters winner, received a standing ovation from fans, players, and golf dignitaries as he was celebrated for his unparalleled contributions to the game.

'Jack Nicklaus is more than a champion—he is a symbol of excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship,' said Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club. 'His legacy transcends the record books, and we are proud to honor him today.'

Nicklaus, often referred to as the 'Golden Bear,' remains the all-time leader in major championship victories, a record he has held for over four decades. His last major win came at the 1986 Masters, where, at age 46, he staged one of the most memorable final-round charges in golf history.

In addition to his playing career, Nicklaus has left an indelible mark as a golf course designer, philanthropist, and ambassador for the sport. The Jack Nicklaus Award is annually given to the top collegiate golfer, and his charitable foundation has raised millions for children's hospitals nationwide.

During the ceremony, an emotional Nicklaus thanked his family, fans, and fellow competitors. 'Golf has given me so much, and I’ve always tried to give back,' he said. 'To be honored here at Augusta, where so many of my greatest memories were made, is truly special.'

The tribute included a video montage of his greatest moments, including his famous putt on the 17th hole in 1986 and his battles with rivals like Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. Current stars, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, paid their respects, with Woods calling Nicklaus 'the standard by which all golfers are measured.'

As the sun set over Amen Corner, Nicklaus took one last wave to the crowd—a fitting salute to a man whose legacy in golf will endure for generations.
