JPL's Mars Rover Discovers Ancient Water Signs on Red Planet

In the vast, rusty expanse of Mars, NASA's Perseverance rover has stumbled upon a treasure trove of ancient water signs. The rover, which touched down on the Red Planet in February 2021, has been exploring the Jezero Crater, a region that was once a lake billions of years ago. The discovery comes from the rover's ground-penetrating radar, which has detected layers of sediment that suggest the presence of water.

The radar data shows that the sediment layers are composed of different materials, indicating that they were deposited in different environments. Some layers appear to be rich in clay minerals, which typically form in the presence of water. This is a significant finding, as it provides further evidence that Mars was once a much wetter place.
