Very attractive restaurant. Only takes reservations for three or more. My daughter and I were told to come early around 7:30 to get seated which we did . We started with 2 salads the Caesar and the Di Campo both good. We then had the... crab appetizer which was very good. Our main dishes were the glutton free pizza and the Branzino special again very good dishes. Large wine selection. Our server Marcelo was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. My only concern is that It was in my opinion somewhat on the expense side for the meal . More
I feel mixed about this restaurant because the food generally is very good, The best part from my perspective are the pastas. They taste homemade and I prepared perfectly al dente. A very authentic experience similar to what one might have in Italy. The salads... are also superb.

Then the atmosphere is lively although it can be a bit loud. Our server was delightful and excellent. Very responsive and attentive.

All that said, our bill was about $330 before tip, so almost $400 for three people. Are we had a couple of cocktails, three glasses of wine and three appetizers and entrées with no dessert, +2 coffees. The shocker was the two specials we ordered. None of the specials had prices listed nor did our server mention them. For me this is an absolute no no at a restaurant,

Especially when it turned out that the veal chop was… Wait for it… $82! And my pasta special was $39! I did not notice anything on the regular menu that was remotely in that vicinity. And my “special” pasta dish turned out to be OK but nothing special. Bucatini with pistachios, razor clams and lemon zest.

As I mentioned, the pasta itself was terrific. However the dish was overly salted, the razor clams were ordinary, I detected no lemon zest or pistachio flavor and there were certainly no crushed pistachios in evidence,. although the dish came with a half lemon. Overall a disappointment and for the price that was undisclosed until the bill very irritating.

My overall verdict is that it’s a mixed bag it and that there are many better choices in New York City at this price point. More
My friends recommended we go here for dinner. They've been dining there for years and I learned why. The food and atmosphere were amazing. Great bar too. Not on the menu Spaghetti Carbonara is what I chose and it was decadent. It will be one... i frequent on my trips to the city. WE overdid it with appetizers of shrimp and calamari, salads, and branzini. We finished off with 4 deserts to share. Workouts ensued! More
What can I say !. The soup @ Bella Blu is phenomenal. Maybe because it’s made with organic items. But if you get a chance, start your day / night with the soup. I had lunch today
Pasta is excellent too.
Marco is friendly and... is a great host , makes you feel great.

On Thursday 10/14 I walked over to Bella Blu and made a reservation for an outdoor table for the following evening. I received a confirmation from Open Table. When I got to the restaurant with my guests they had no record of the reservation and... were unable to rectify the situation. We went elsewhere. More
Authentic Italian restaurant with pleasant atmosphere, excellent and professional service, delicious food , moderately priced!
Excellent bread is served at the table with an olive oil suffused with sun dried tomate, really delicious!
We have tried all the pasta dishes in the last few visits,... today I had the orrechiete with sausage and broccoli rape and my friend had the artichoke ravioli. After lunch coffee came with little home made cookies. More
Just went for the second and last time recently, not only is the food mall food court quality with gooey pizza and small bland entrees , but this restaurant tries hard to scam some customers.
Its amazing how they tried the same scam twice with... me … “fool me once…” when we ordered a bottle of wine from the waiter, he immediately said that he didn’t think they had it in stock.
The owner? Manager? came to the table with different bottle and said that he didn’t have the one I wanted and that he was going to give me a “better” bottle for the same price. The “better” bottle was conveniently not on the wine list and not a wine I have ever heard of. When I refused (I fell for this trick once before) they quickly came back and said that they just found the one I originally ordered.
Another scam are the specials, they don’t give the price, and some are 4x the entrée price! Beware of massive overcharging for subpar dishes.
The bottom line is that you have many other choices in the area for much better food served by honest people.

This lively Italian restaurant is family friendly with a wide variety of menu choices. Everything from pizzas and cheese and meat platters to salads and tasty pasta dishes. Service was brisk to almost rushed, but not quite. The welcome was friendly and my spouse and... I particularly enjoyed the salad with walnuts and Gorgonzola and his ravioli with guanciale. We also tried the penne with cubes of fresh tuna and black olives in a tomato sauce. Portions are large so sharing a salad is a good idea. Definitely a place to put on our return list! More
After passing BB many times, we finally decided to book for dinner. We discovered that it is very popular with diners of all ages - from families, to students from nearby Hunter College, and lots of others as well - like the two of us.... The place was buzzing at 6 PM. Seating is "very New York" by which I mean crowded. This is not a place to whisper sweet nothings to your companion unless you want them heard and maybe even commented upon by people at the next table, some of which may actually be closer to you than your companion across your table. My pasta dish was excellent. The salad we had also was very good. My fritto misto was not quite as good as it should be, but it's not an easy dish to make (even though it seems simple). Good drinks. Good wines. I can see why this place is so popular. We will go back. More
We had a party of 7 with 2 adults and 5 teens. Service was outstanding. Food was delicious! Very accommodating for our party size and time. The atmosphere is very authentic NY Italian. Close to Central Park. Highly recommend!
We went here for dinner around 8:00 on a Saturday night. We had the pleasure of having Marcello as our waiter. He was extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We loved the vibe of this small quaint restaurant. It was bustling and very busy. It seemed... like everyone knew everyone in the restaurant so although we were tourists, it seemed like a local restaurant full of people who had walked to the restaurant. The menu is varied and plentiful with lots of specials. We had the osso buco which was a special, spaghetti and meatballs, a pizza, a Caesar and an antipasto platter. Everything was extremely flavorful and well presented. The food was abundant and served hot! The ambience and vibe reminded me a little of Dan Tana’s in LA. with more of local patrons rather than the occasional star clientele. We would definitely return for the service, experience and food. Like it's neighbor Orsay, down the street, this is a popular local spot. It is very busy and reservations are very recommended, but they won't take a reservation for 2 unless you're a regular, then they'll bend the rules.

Some say the place is buzzy...or... lively, but let's just be direct and admit that it tends to be noisy. It is a fairly small, narrow space with a high ceiling, but lots of hard surfaces tends to make it noisy. If you have trouble hearing or speaking up, you may find this a problem.

The people working at the restaurant are very nice and service, overall, is good, though maybe not as attentive as I would expect given the check you'll be getting at the end of your meal.

On the positive side, the space is inviting, though tables can be fairly close together. We didn't get a table. Since there were only 2 of us, they wouldn't take our reservation but told us getting a table would be no problem, just come in...so we did and guess what? No table...it was a problem. We ended up eating at the bar.

Which brings us to the food. We tried a number of things and I expected better. The shared pizza appetizer looked good but showed up lukewarm and the crust was strangely moist and chewy, like it had been frozen and not cooked long enough. Can't recommend. The pasta dishes also came warm, but not hot, which was disappointing.

Similar to our experience at the French competition further north on Madison, this is a place where locals go to drink...not so much eat. The service is much better at Bella Blu than it is at Orsay and frankly, the food is too, though that's not saying much.

The check was steep for 2 people, dinner and drinks, at over $110 per person.

Bottom line, I don't know why it's so popular. Food is ordinary and prices high. I do know my bottom line is always, would I go back again and I would not. More
When I go out to dinner with friends, the goal is to eat good food and TALK.
It is impossible to talk or hear a thing at this Restuarant, you are packed in like sardines, and hassled each time a server walks by. The noise... level is unbearable and on top of that management feels it’s necessary to have music blaring. It’s a small narrow place that is super crowded.
The food is very good, the portions huge but certainly on the expensive side.
their wine selection was merely ok and of course overpriced.
We won’t return because an evening out for us is when I can say I enjoyed the meal and conversation with friends and family was great.
If you are a typical NYer who wants the hype, noise, huge price tag and food that is good maybe slightly better then good go here.
If you want an enjoyable evening out where you don’t leave with a headache and an empty wallet try somewhere else. More
