KALEY Cuoco’s Harley Quinn's long-awaited lesbian romance with Poison Ivy has been confirmed for season 2.
The former Big Bang Theory actress voices the character in the popular adult animated series.
The trailer for season two left fans speculating about whether things become romantic between Harley and her BFF Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) and now show runner Patrick Schumacker has confirmed romance will blossom between the pair.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk , he said: "It will develop more, and it’s definitely going to evolve into, I think, what a lot of people are hoping it will.
"What I can say is, we wanted to do it – it was always on the table. It’s something that had been done in the comments.
"It felt interesting to us or felt like, maybe even important to us, to do it."
However the team were keen to let the LGBT relationship develop naturally, and not just shoehorn it into the plot for cheap kicks.
Patrick explained how they chose not to do it in the first season as Harley was "just getting out of an abusive relationship" with Joker.
He added: "What would that say about the character if the first story that we tell is about her being in a relationship with somebody else?"
The adult animated series continues to follow Harley's quest to become Gotham's top supervillain.
Harley is seen in the trailer with a whole host of DC Comics characters including Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Cat Woman and Riddler.
But it's Poison Ivy who seems to be spending the most time with Harley, and the women are seen cuddling up to one another before holding hands as the trailer announces the second series will be 'raunchier' than ever.
Harley Quinn season two airs on DC Universe on Friday, April 3, before airing in the UK in May.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has slammed accusations spread on social media that she is a lesbian and once lived with her girlfriend, insisting that they are lies and that she lives her life according to the Bible.
"Telling lies is just disgusting," Ivey told WVTM 13 in an interview on Wednesday.
Ivey's response was to a tweet by Patricia Todd, Alabama's first openly gay legislator, who earlier on Wednesday wrote on her account that has since been set to private:
"Will someone out her for God's sake....I have heard for years that she is gay and moved her girlfriend out of her house when she became Gov. I am sick of closeted elected officials."
Ivey said that "after a full, long, good productive day, I saw this tweet. And it's disgusting, it's false, it's a bald-faced lie." She added that she lives her life according to Biblical principles, and defines marriage as solely a union between one man and one woman.
The 73-year-old Republican, who last year replaced former Governor Robert Bentley following a sex scandal, previously served as the state's lieutenant governor and state treasurer.
Ivey campaign spokeswoman Debbee Hancock also denounced the rumors in a statement to AL.com , stating that it is a "disgusting lie being pushed by a paid liberal political hack."
"There is absolutely no truth to it," Hancock added.
Todd meanwhile insisted that she knows several conservative Republicans who are gay, accusing them of having an "identity issue."
"I'll catch some flak for it," Todd said. "But I feel a responsibility — not as the 'head queer' —to hold people accountable."
Responding to the rumors concerning Ivey's personal life, Hancock again repeated that there is "no truth" to the governor, who was previously married to a man, ever having had a relationship with a woman.
Ivey further told WVTM 13 that she has no regrets in her run for election to full-term in the 2018 gubernatorial election.
"I'm honored to run and I'm honored to have the people's support. The polls have us still strong," she said.
"I think if there's any motivation you can find it has to be associated with those who are not getting any traction and they're just desperate for media attention, any way they can get it."
Just a day earlier, Ivey announced on a separate issue that she is fully supporting the movement for President Donald Trump to be nominated for a Noble Peace Prize, due to his work regarding peace efforts on the Korean peninsula.
"President Trump is due to be honored for his ability to bring everyone to the table to discuss a way forward which offers the Korean Peninsula, and the world, a path toward stability and peace," Ivey wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
"It isn't often that presidents follow through on their promises; yet, President Trump is proving time and again that he isn't like most presidents. I am thankful to the president for the conservative, smaller-government direction he is taking our nation and for his efforts in ensuring that our world is a safer place," she added.

New set photos emerged online this morning from the Birds of Prey spin-off, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) starring Margot Robbie, hinting at a new relationship for the character of Harley Quinn in the film.
Earlier today, we shared a new batch of set photos courtesy of Just Jared that revealed Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn had split from Jared Leto’s Joker in the Birds of Prey spin-off. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn tattoos can now be seen with the word “Puddin” on her “Harley + Puddin” tattoo crossed out. In addition, fans have also spotted a new tattoo hinting that a lesbian relationship from the comics could be made canon for Harley Quinn in the film.
On Margot Robbie’s right leg, the letters “P+H” can be seen inside of a heart with an arrow through it. This, of course, hints at the possibility of a relationship with none other than Batman villain Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy. The two were previously confirmed to be girlfriends in the comics by DC back in 2015.

Full details on Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) are currently unknown, though the film is said to center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.
The film which is currently in production is being produced by Sue Kroll under her Kroll & Co Entertainment banner along with Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, and Margot Robbie which reprises her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn in the film.
DC Comics’ Birds of Prey are an international crimefighting team featuring heroines such as Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) and the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli). The comic book teams current lineup consists of Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk, along with Hawk and Dove.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan, McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

James Gunn is directing The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. but that comes at a cost.
When the first Suicide Squad was about to hit theaters DC fans were completely ecstatic. The trailers looked great and the feel of the movie was much different than the darkness that preceded it in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . This movie was expected to be one of DC's biggest hits and it turned out to be one of the biggest let-downs of all time.
Suicide Squad was bad and its reviews reflected that. It was one of the only movies I've ever been upset at and it made me want to leave the theater. A sequel was announced because the film did well at the box office, going through a number of drafts until James Gunn was brought on to write it. With James Gunn now officially set to direct The Suicide Squad , it looks like the film will be a bit of a soft reboot.
Last night was a bit of a DC maelstrom of news. We got the release dates and official titles of Matt Reeves' The Batman and James Gunn's The Suicide Squad . Both movies will be hitting theaters in Summer 2021. Throughout all of the chaos a small tidbit surfaced about The Suicide Squad : the James Gunn-directed film will be some sort of relaunch with new characters and actors . Warner Bros. and DC may want to reboot Suicide Squad , but it would be seriously dumb for them to recast Amanda Waller. Viola Davis was one of the saving graces of the first film and bringing her back is the smart thing to do. Amanda Waller is the one that puts the group together and she shouldn't be changed due to a new director.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II made his debut as Black Manta in Aquaman and he didn’t get much screen time. The Suicide Squad is the best place for Black Manta to receive some character development and for audiences to see him grow as a villain. Black Manta is a main squad member in the New 52 and I think James Gunn could do the character justice.
Another bright spot from the first film: Will Smith as Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot. Will Smith is one of the most famous actors of all time and throughout every review of Suicide Squad his character shines. His charisma and screen presence dominated the film. Not bringing Smith back would be sabotaging the sequel as fans will expect the actor to return following his great performance.
Joe Manganiello made his debut as Deathstroke in the post-credits scene of Justice League . His character wasn't as eager for a team-up as Lex Luthor, but we could see the assassin enroll in the Suicide Squad. It could be great for Manganiello as his Deathstroke film has been put on the back-burner .
This character is unlikely to show up in The Suicide Squad as she's being heavily utilized in The Flash series on The CW. But, if James Gunn does get his hands on Killer Frost, I guarantee the character will not be a complete shitshow like in the series. Hopefully the director can make Killer Frost as villainous as possible.
Poison Ivy will definitely return to the big screen. Pamela Isley made her big screen debut in Batman & Robin with Uma Thurman playing the character and while that film is so campily terrible, fans are looking forward to a modern take on the iconic DC Comics villain. Poison Ivy is rumored to be part of a Gotham City Sirens film and a rumored Birds of Prey versus The Gotham City Siren project. Ivy could definitely make her DC Extended Universe debut in The Suicide Squad and then return for more movies.
King Shark was supposed to be in the first Suicide Squad , but ultimately didn't make the cut. The concept art of the character shows the cold-blooded amphibious mutant in a Hawaiian shirt looking like a totally monstrous shark. If James Gunn does decide to utilize this character it would be fun to see what he does on screen.
Bronze Tiger was heavily featured in the first half of Arrow season 7. He was a major help to Oliver Queen during his tenure in prison. But Arrow hasn't done a very accurate version of Bronze Tiger and The Suicide Squad could be the first place we get to see Ben Turner really let loose.
Bane is an interesting choice to join The Suicide Squad . He is a member in the comics and even the first film had some concept art featuring his mask . Fans are clamoring for Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista to join the film as the iconic Batman villain, having the actor reunite with James Gunn.
Kristen Wiig will make her debut as infamous Wonder Woman villain Cheetah in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 . Maybe after the film, Cheetah gets locked up by A.R.G.U.S. and joins the Squad in present day. It would be great to see Wiig's character be explored more in future films.
