Ivanka Trump apparently had no idea that her father, President Donald Trump, was planning on announcing a ban on transgender people serving in the military, Politico reported .
Several White House aides told Politico that Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner — who both serve as top advisers to the president — were "blindsided" by the announcement, and that Ivanka only found out about it when Trump tweeted it out last Wednesday.

Ivanka Trump was reportedly surprised by Trump's decision, given that he has supported LGBT rights in the past. He notably reached out to the LGBT community during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last July.
"As president, I will do everything in my power to protect LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology," he told the crowd, adding, "And, I have to say, as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what I just said."
Trump also expressed his support for LGBT rights last June, tweeting , "Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs."
The president's tweets announcing the ban on transgender military servicemembers came a few weeks after Ivanka Trump publicly expressed her support for LGBT rights. "I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy," she tweeted during pride month.
Many Pentagon officials , including Defense Secretary James Mattis , were reportedly unaware of the plan, as well, and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a statement on Thursday that the military will not move forward with such a ban unless the president sends them written implementation guidance.

On Wednesday, the Fed bumped up interest rates again, its third 75-basis point hike since June, and signaled that there could be two more such hikes by the end of this year. The conventional wisdom has the Fed acting properly, and aggressively, in an attempt to counter inflation raging at 40-year high levels. But conventional wisdom isn’t always right – and we can learn a lot by consulting the contrarians. Few top investors are more contrarian than Cathie Wood. The founder and manager of ARK Inv

In June, Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and one of his most trusted advisers, tweeted her support for the LGBT community in recognition of LGBT Pride Month.
The 35-year-old, who traded in her corporate life to become an official White House employee in March, said that she was "proud to support" her LGBT friends and fellow Americans "who have made immense contributions to our society and economy." She even wished everyone a "joyful #Pride 2017" on Twitter , proclaiming the month of June as a time to "celebrate and honor the #LGBTQ community."
However, on Wednesday, the oldest Trump daughter undermined her previous claims of support for LGBT folk when she remained silent following President Donald Trump's ban on transgender people in the military.
In a series of tweets, the president announced the "United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military." He said the government could not be "burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail," sparking immediate outrage from members of Congress, LGBT advocates and people across the nation.
Not long after the president announced the ban, the backlash trickled over onto Ivanka Trump, and many people questioned the first daughter's apparent inability to influence any decisions made in the White House.
Is there any woman LESS empowering than Ivanka Trump? Got a job she's totally unqualified for because of her daddy, & has zero influence.
Along with pegging herself as a champion for LGBT rights and equality, Ivanka Trump strongly advocated for gender equality and climate change research when her father was campaigning. But since landing her White House role, she has been unable to convince her father to stick with the Paris Climate Agreement—a climate change accord within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that deals with ways to combat global warming—nor has she been able to influence decisions surrounding Planned Parenthood, which was cut from the Trump administration's budget proposal.
Ivanka Trump has also pushed for equal pay and better family leave options for working parents. However, none of her proposals have panned out since she became a member of her father's staff.
@IvankaTrump Saddened by silence 4 ur Trans "friends". Friends r people who R there when you r in need, yet U R are silent. Thanks friend:(
As for Donald Trump's treatment of women, of whom he claimed to be a real " friend " along with LGBT people during his 2016 campaign, Ivanka Trump has stayed quiet on that too. She said nothing in response to her father's personal attacks on women, including his recent comments toward MSNBC Morning-Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski .
Ivanka Trump did, however, describe her father's infamous "grab them by the p***y" remark "clearly inappropriate and offensive."
Despite a lack of public comments concerning her father's latest controversy, there is a chance that she could be keeping any frustrations she may have with his recent transgender military ban in private.
In an April interview with CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King, Ivanka Trump suggested Americans shouldn't "conflate lack of public denouncement with silence."
She said: "I think there are multiple ways to have your voice heard. In some cases it's through protest and it's through going on the nightly news and talking about or denouncing every issue in which you disagree with. Other times it is quietly and directly and candidly. So where I disagree with my father, he knows it, and I express myself with total candor. Where I agree, I fully lean in and support the agenda and hope that I can be an asset to him and make a positive impact. But I respect the fact that he always listens. It's how he was in business. It's how he is as president."

I guess support stops at the military doorstep. Your dad is a sad disappointment.
Do those "immense contributions to our society" include them serving in the military? If so, remind your mentally failing father.
Hiya @IvankaTrump , If you do have LGBTQ friends, are they still talking to you after Daddy banned trans people in the military yesterday? 🤔 https://t.co/j0c7msjRdh

Ivanka Trump may share the president's blood and hold a position in the White House, but when it comes to learning about her father's impromptu announcements, she finds out same way as the rest of the world: Twitter.
In fact, according to Politico, Trump's eldest daughter had absolutely no idea her father was planning to issue his ban on transgender people in the military last week, which just goes to show how great communication is at the White House. 🙃
In the article, Politico writers Annie Karni and Eliana Johnson describe Ivanka and her husband, White House advisor Jared Kushner, as being "blindsided" by Trump's three tweets banning transgender people from serving in the military and describing their medical expenses as burdensome and disruptive.
While defense secretary Jim Mattis was reportedly given only a day’s notice about the decision, White House officials told the publication Ivanka was "surprised by her father’s posts" and didn't learn of the decision until seeing Trump's tweet on her phone. Same, girl. Same — though Trump's not my dad.
During his campaign, the president pledged to fight for the freedoms of the LGBTQ community, but he's done little to uphold those promises since taking office. In February, Trump rescinded the Obama-era rule allowing transgender students to use the restroom matching their gender identity, and despite serious backlash from the LGBTQ community, he failed to proclaim June National Pride Month.
In the past, Ivanka has been vocal about her support of LGBTQ rights. After her father took office, she and Kushner reportedly helped put an end to an executive order that would have overturned additional Obama-era transgender protections and allowed people in the workplace to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community on the basis of religious beliefs.
Trump may have declared his ban via Twitter, but chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joe Dunford, explained in an internal memo obtained by Politico that tweets do not make official policies ... Sad!
"There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President’s direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance,” Dunford wrote. "In the meantime, we will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect ... and will all remain focused on accomplishing our assigned missions."
It comes as no surprise that Ivanka is now getting backlash. "Actions speak louder than words," Sarah McBride, national press secretary for the nonprofit Human Rights Coalition told Politico. "Either Ivanka is ineffective in her advocacy within the building, or h
