Subreddit for Anime and anime-style wallpapers.
Hi. It's been a while since we've had one of these (you can see the previous one here ). There are some small and some not so small changes that we want you to know about, but more importantly we want input from you. Some general updates first:
We've recently added two new moderators - Welcome to /u/Newtlearms and /u/LZ58840 and thanks for the great help so far.
Reddit recently added the functionality of having album posts natively, you can see the announcement here . We'll enable this on the subreddit as a trial for now. Note that if you're using old.reddit these albums won't work, but the newest version of the old reddit redirect extension adds compatibility.
Overall the subreddit has seen steady growth, we hit 100k subscribers about 10 months ago and we're already at 144k now. Pretty good! Our discord server is also growing steadily, and new members are always welcome.
We'll go over all the rules soon to generally clean them up a bit in terms of wording, but there are some more substantial changes too:
regarding reposts, the rule will now specify that reposts will only be removed if the previous post is less than 6 months old. We don't want to encourage recycling of content but at some point it's unreasonable to expect most users to be familiar with the really old stuff. We still want you to use the repost checker though.
regarding the 4 posts a day limit. The way we want the rule to work is if you make 4 posts in a day then you have to wait until the oldest of those is more than 24 hours old before you can post another one, and so on. You can also think of it as a rolling 24 hour period and you may only have 4 posts inside of it at any time. The wording is kind of awkward but we think it's a good concept. We'll also be trying out a bot to enforce it automatically.
Rule 7 (and 1) the big NSFW question This is one of the main reasons for this post so this part might get a bit long.
So this is a topic that keeps coming up pretty regularly and we finally want to address it. I'll give some examples of the concerns that we've heard. "There are too many nsfw posts in general (and they take away space from the more 'normal' posts)" "Some of the posts are too pornographic" "Most people don't actually use these lewd images as wallpapers, they just upvote them because it's eye candy / fap material / whatever." - this is the one we've gotten most often.
These are all valid points, but since this is a quite subjective matter it's not easy to decide what to do about it. Additionally it's quite hard to judge how many people actually feel this way. Our rules are intentionally set so that the bar for a post being marked nsfw is quite low. Something like this , which you could see at any beach, and which is really not sexualized at all, is still required to be marked nsfw. We decided a long time ago that we would rather be safe than sorry in this regard and that's unlikely to change. This does raise the total amount of nsfw posts but I can't say if it's significant. (Generally about 30-40% of the posts on the front page of the subreddit are nsfw, and that ratio seems to be pretty constant.) On the other end of the scale, the subject of what is too nsfw often leads to reports and discussions in the comments. The current rules allow "tasteful nudity" but forbid hentai, however we often seem to run into cases where people's sensibilities differ on where one ends and the other begins. So regardless of if we want to be stricter or not, clarification seems to be needed here.
Right now we haven't decided what we're going to do, we really do want your feedback.
All that being said though, as always with these threads we welcome feedback on anything related to the subreddit or the discord server , you don't have to restrict yourself to the topics mentioned here.

Oh lastly, thanks to all of you who are subscribed and special thanks to the kind contributors who help others with requests.
I love the way this sub handles NSFW, and though I do wish for more scenic centric wallpapers I have no problem with the current state. So whichever gets people more active is ok for me.
I'm saying this as a common browser who, every couple of days, sorts by new and looks through all the posts: I think the current approach is perfect. I'm not personally a fan of the borderline hentai art, but I also haven't seen anything recently that screams out at me as too much.
Since there's a setting to opt in to show NSFW posts without confirmation site wide, anyone who doesn't want to see those can simply skip past them as they're blurred. But I understand that due to the NSFW bar being set so low, you might skip over something that was actually fine.
As I write this, the poll is about 2/3 for keeping it the same. So that remaining 1/3 is still a good chunk. Perhaps a compromise of additional flair for posts with modest nudity? This allows people to somewhat filter between your bathing suit NSFW and your nudity NSFW.
My main hope is to help people sort through the content to see what they're comfortable with rather than change the content of the subreddit as a whole.
I've been subbed for some time and the current situation and NSFW is fine. I don't keep NSFW enabled and I don't think there's any material that's NSFW being posted.
For the men of culture among us, I think it's a good idea to have an nsfw flair so people can browse only nsfw posts

There is not that much nude/hentai wallpaper on the subreddit
I check the subreddit everyday and i can tell you i have seen nude wallpaper not much often

yeah i don't think the lewd stuff is a problem but it's not my type of thing. i think it'd be good to have a flair to filter for the waifu type of wallpapers, the scenic and logo wallpapers, and one for character wallpapers that are non-lewd like shonen anime.

Damn I missed the poll, but I was literally gonna message someone soon regarding this issue...because there were fewer wallpapers showing up and more NSFW stuff, because it probably got more upvotes. I was going to suggest to ban NSFW altogether, because that's what r/hentai is for, or probably have much stricter moderation for posts tagged NSFW for allowing milder stuff through

Unclear rules have always been a criticism that I made to this sub, so I am very happy that now that we have well-established time periods.
Regarding the NSFW rule, I believe it is adequate (and should be kept as is), but there are still "loopholes" in relation to certain outfits. So it might be a good idea to create a short text detailing the NSFW Policy, talking about skimpy outfits and other common situations in anime (plugsuits, side of panty showing, etc.).
I definetly think that is a good idea. We should also premise that the character that is the main focus should be of age.
For the NSFW situation, I surf on this sub everyday but I don't see many nude or extreme lewd posts.
I mean, there is the function for hiding/not hiding them, and you use very little time to scroll the page and see the posts that you want to see.
In my opinion, the best posts are the ones where there isn't clearly the nudity but just the "allusion" to it; for example, the famous artist Atdan has this style.. just to clarify what I'm saying. But even these pictures are often marked with the tag NSFW.
And again, I could say that every anime girl wallpaper could be not safe to show at work, in a large way of intending the situation. Many people have some sort of prejudice if your wallpaper is a drawing of an anime girl. This is an important point, but clearly not every post have to be marked as NSFW.
In conclusion, I would say that the current situation is fine, more lewd/nude pictures for me is a no.
Iโm kind of new to the sub, is there a way I can filter out and find some of the more scenery types of wallpapers. Thanks :D
Regarding NSFW posts, it's personal preference. What can I say, I haven't used any walls from this subs since I joined. Heck I'm that person who uses anything from manga panels to a rough pencil sketch on insta as wallpaper. But still, liking a NSFW waifu pic and actually using it,is totally different things....
Wouldn't it better if there was a seperate flair for waifu, landscape, potrait and others?
I don't like when someone is promoting a private Subreddit in the Title. They double their own Karma. But that's not the Point here. Self promotion in the Comments would be fine but atm it's unclear whether is it allowed or not. No Promo in the Title D:
