It's A Robot Hoover Success Story You'll Never Believe
The Best Robot Hoover
The most effective robot vacuum will vacuum and mop your floors with no effort. It will also leave clean. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as dirt detectors) are a plus.
Be sure to regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled and large debris, and wash them when needed. Some models can also self-empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. Going On this page is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
