Naruto's Itachi Uchiha is a complex character and a fan-favorite. Naturally, this means the ninja has inspired some fantastic cosplay over the years.
For Naruto fans, Itachi Uchiha does not need an introduction. Honestly, even if someone is not a huge Naruto fan, chances are they have heard of this legend at least once in their lives. But just in case, here is a quick bio. Itachi Uchiha is, hands down, one of the coolest characters in Naruto , if not the coolest. His selflessness transcends common logic. He massacred his entire clan, loved ones, and himself for the greater good of the village, talk about a selfless soul.
Bearing in mind that everyone loves Itachi, there’s bound to be tons of enthusiastic fan cosplays out there. Here are 10 of the best.
While this cosplayer goes simple with his piece, he manages to capture all the core features that define Itachi. The cosplay photo is elegant, plain, and radiates calmness, a good job from the cosplayer's side.
Itachi is one of the few Naruto characters who require precision when cosplaying, as he is pretty easy to mess up. If the cosplayer doesn’t give mind to small details, then something could quickly go wrong.
Itachi and Deidara go way back. A young and art-obsessed Deidara was scouted to the Akatsuki by Itachi; to be exact, she was beaten into submission then initiated. For these reasons, the relationship between Itachi and Deidara was always one of half-despise, half-envy from Deidara’s side.
These cosplayers brought together two great characters who are not usually seen together, and for that, they deserve praise.
Itachi is a character that attracts all genders. Male or not, everyone would undoubtedly love to pose as him, and this cosplayer did an even better job at cosplaying Itachi than most male cosplayers.
Loonarblaze even added the after-effect of Amaterasu; which is the blood leaking from her eye. For those who don’t know, Amaterasu is a technique that’s exclusive to the Mangekyou Sharingan. It’s a black fire that can virtually burn everything; it was one of Itachi’s signature movies.
This is another conventional piece that doesn’t stray away from the source material too greatly. It was not personalized to the cosplayer’s preferences nor were additional unneeded tweaks added; consequently, everything is as it is supposed to be.
The cosplayer chose a nice background for his piece. Yes, the background might’ve just been some unassuming woods, but even the tiniest detail can separate a perfect cosplay from a not-so-bad cosplay.
This group cosplay features Itachi, young Sasuke , and one of the fan-favorite villains, Orochimaru. This piece is nothing short of a gem. The outfits are spectacular, Orochimaru’s Sword of Kusanagi looks as sharp as ever, and the cosplayers knew the perfect poses to strike.
One thing that stands out about this piece is the beautiful editing applied. Some times a good sun blur is all it takes to bring it home.
PriSuicun went hardcore with this work of art, and he definitely pulled it off spectacularly. They went as far as to locate beautiful scenery for their cosplay session. Both the Akatsuki uniform and the nail polish are on spot. Based on this dedication alone, this cosplayer deserves a big thumbs up.
It’s refreshing to see people cosplay outside of conventions, especially if they pick a habitat that perfectly suits the cosplayed character.
Climbintospace truly nailed the dynamic pose. While a natural and a more easy-going pose might be favorable to a cosplay-sensitive character like Itachi, sometimes taking a more unconventional route is the right choice.
This cosplayer took a gamble and won. The background is apparently modeled after Konoha’s training grounds, a location just outside of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Props to the cosplayer for accurately representing an in-series location.
The relationship between Itachi and his younger brother, Sasuke, has always been a bumpy one. The relationship went from that of a loving elder brother guiding his younger sibling to one of one-sided loathing. Sasuke spent a good part of his teenage years hating Itachi for what could only be counted as a misunderstanding; though it could also be considered Itachi’s will.
This cosplaying duo captured the love between Itachi and Sasuke before that tragic event. They fully deserve a round of applause.
Apparently, this cosplaying duo wasn’t content with just cosplaying Itachi and Sasuke; therefore, they cosplayed one of the saddest moments in Itachi’s life – his twilight.
For those who have seen the anime show, then this iconic scene will surely be remembered. Lunomar's series of photos offer almost a pixel-by-pixel recreation of this moment, and the photography is fantastic throughout. All in all, this group did an amazing job.
Just in case the previous cosplay wasn’t heartwrenching enough, these two cosplayers deserve as much respect as the previous duo. Their cosplay theme is yet another iconic moment in the anime.
This was the moment when Itachi cleared the misunderstandings between him and Sasuke and declared his eternal love as an older brother. The special effects add a great deal of realism to this masterpiece.

Start your costume preparations early. Even if you will be buying the cosplay, you still have to take into account the shipping times. There is also a chance that the cosplay may not fit properly. If that happens, you'll have to take the time to adjust it. You should give yourself at least a month in order to make or buy the cosplay. If you will be commissioning the cosplay, you will need to give yourself even more time.
Have lots of reference pictures ready.

Purchase or make an Akatsuki cloak. You can buy a set online from an anime cosplay shop or you can commission someone to make one for you. You can also make your own based on a robe pattern. If you choose to make your own Akatsuki robes, do the following:

Draft your own pattern or modify an existing one to include the tall, wide collar.
Use some sort of stiffener inside the collar to help it stand up. Thick interfacing or craft foam will do.
Make the designs by painting them on with fabric paint or creating appliques.

Modify a fitted t-shirt and a fishnet shirt to create the mesh shirt. Get a dark-colored (black or navy) fitted t-shirt and cut a V-neck into it. Hem the V-neck for a nicer finish. Wear the shirt over a long-sleeved fishnet shirt when you wear your cosplay.
Alternatively, you can purchase a full Itachi Uchiha cosplay set online.

Get some baggy, dark-colored pants. You can purchase a full Itachi Uchiha cosplay online, you can buying matching pants separately, or you can make your own. The pants need to be baggy from waist down to about mid-calf. After that, they should be fitted. They should be the same color as the V-neck t-shirt you modified.
If you cannot find pants that are fitted below the calves, that's okay.

Buy or make the open-toe shoe covers. Again, you can find these in an online cosplay supply shop, commission them, or make them yourself. If you choose to make them yourself, you will need to use the same material you used for your t-shirt and pants. Start with a sock shape, then cut the toes off. Hem the raw edges, then slide the shoe covers over a pair of black or navy flip flops.

The flip flops will create the thickness of the sole as well as cushion your foot.
If the shoe covers slip and slide on the convention floor too much, draw squiggles on the underside with a glue gun or silicone. This will give you some traction.

Buy or make the white open-toed/open-heeled socks. Itachi wears a set of spat-like covers over his shoes. They come up to about his mid-calves and cover the bottom portion of his pants, causing them to puff out below the knees. You can buy these from a cosplay supply shop or make your own using white jersey material. You can also buy a pair of white socks and cut off the heels, as well as the entire front portion. Remember to hem the raw/cut edges of the spats.

The front portion includes everything from the arch to the toes. You want a 1-inch (2.5-cm) thick strip under your arch.
You will wear these over the flip flops and open-toed shoe covers.

Obtain the headband. The headband (or forehead protector) is one of the most important parts of the cosplay, next to the Akatsuki robes. You need to find Itachi Uchia's particular type of headband. If you cannot find his headband online, you can buy Sasuke Uchia's headband instead, then draw a horizontal line across the front using a black marker. [1]

Consider getting the necklace and ring. These are not mandatory to the cosplay, but they will make it more authentic and detailed. You will need to buy Itachi's red/scarlet Shu ring online from a cosplay supply shop. You can buy his necklace on there as well, or you can make it yourself by tying pieces of black cording
