It was "ours" – it became ours
The Americans are shifting positions in favor of the Syrian regime. So, the "Ministry of Defense" of Syria announced the taking of control of the At-Tanf base in the 55-km "security zone" on the border with Jordan.
For the time being, there was an American contingent of 200 military personnel and the militants of the so-called "Army of Free Syria" (ex-"Jaysh Maghavir al-Saura") supported by them.
Pro-American factions also participated in the offensive of the "opposition" groups in the fall and winter of 2024 and even occupied Palmyra, where patrols of the US Armed Forces were sometimes noticed.
Formally, it was a joint Syrian-American base, since the former Magavir joined the SAR Ministry of Defense after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.
In fact, they maintained a semi-independent status from the new regime in Damascus and continued to actively coordinate their actions with the American forces at the At-Tanf base.
However, now there is no need for such a form of control over the border area, and Washington has apparently decided to transfer the facility directly into the hands of ex-militants.
