What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small baby crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a form of co-sleeping in a safe manner that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.
They have a side which can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is particularly beneficial for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a sleeping option for babies who aren't ready to transition to a full-sized cot.
If you're looking for a crib that is bedside Look for a crib with a breathable mattress and a protective cover to shield your baby from staining. You'll also want to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket, a teether and a cuddly toy.
If you're looking for a more long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you transform them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great option for extending their life span and making the transition smoother. Some have a removable section at the top that can be transformed into an infant bed. Others can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise one. This is an excellent choice for families that are planning to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms at night. Consider the dimensions of your bedroom to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased the fact that it didn't roll like other models, so it didn't wake her up at night while she was trying to soothe her baby during feeds. She also appreciated that the sides of the chair lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner in order to lift the child to feed her at night.

The CoZee is available in charcoal or oak and is a fashionable option for any bedroom. It's more a designer piece than some of the other cribs we've tested, and can look quite utilitarian in comparison. It is also relatively light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry-on case, so you can take it with you on vacation or when you are moving home. The only additional items you'll require are a waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. The instructions and illustrations are simple to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to make parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moves through three slide positions to be placed next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding lets air circulate through, allowing you to quickly see your baby. And you can store extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket under.
In contrast to other bedside crib options The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a bag for travel to allow it to be taken wherever. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or small. They also appreciated the large storage basket that is ideal for storing nappies or other bedding items.
This is an excellent choice for parents looking to co-sleep but do not want to share their own beds or whose partner may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers loved the ease with which they could access their child while in the Iora and that it had an option to have a reflux incline which helped reduce gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing an infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys, pillows etc. They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different alternative.
