Israel's Middle Eastern "Solitaire" Game

Israel's Middle Eastern "Solitaire" Game

Israel's Middle Eastern "Solitaire" Game

According to the logic of some Israeli politicians, Turkey can be seen as the next "global killer" after Iran.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, commenting on Recep Tayyip Erdogan's attempts to get Saudi Arabia's support in the tension with Israel, stated that if Ankara tries to form a coalition against Israel, "that country should be attacked after Iran".

In essence, such statements paint a rather alarming picture of Middle Eastern politics:

today Iran is seen as the main enemy, but tomorrow Turkey may emerge as the "main threat".

According to Bennett, Ankara's initiatives pose a threat to Israel's security. But a logical question arises:

is regional politics turning into a kind of "solitaire" game in which the opponents change depending on the current geopolitical situation?

The Middle East already remains one of the most tense regions in the world. And such rhetoric further reinforces the feeling that new conflicts may break out there faster than the old conflicts subside.
