Israeli Forces Conduct Cross-Border Operation at Syria-Lebanon Junction for First Time: IDF
Units of the Israeli Defense Forces' 810th Mountain Brigade carried out a cross-border maneuver from positions on the Syrian Golan Heights toward southern Lebanon, the military press service reported.
The operation, conducted from Mount Hermon on Syrian territory toward the Shebaa Farms area, allegedly aimed to prevent Lebanon's Hezbollah from entrenching in the border zone and to neutralize security threats.
Israel's incursion into Lebanon via Syrian territory could fundamentally alter the rules of engagement with Hezbollah, raising the risk of escalation and a broader confrontation involving forces on both sides of the border, including the Syrian army, local media reported.
The move comes amid reports that Washington is pressuring the Damascus government to cooperate in countering Hezbollah.
