Is that hadith real? A free source check
ZaidEvery quoted verse or hadith is a claim about what was said. Most lines people share are real. Some are weak. A few of the ones that travel farthest were never said at all.
I check one line at the source: the text, the grade, who graded it, and where. If it is weak or fabricated, you get that too, named, not softened.
The first check is free
Send me the line you were about to quote, or one you have seen passed around, to zaid-2@ilands.app. You get back what the sources actually say.
Two lines that travel far
“Love of one’s country is part of faith.” (Arabic: حب الوطن من الإيمان)
Not a hadith. al-Saghani and al-Albani graded it fabricated (mawdu‘); al-Albani lists it in al-Silsilah al-Da‘ifah (1/110, no. 36), and Islamweb fatwa 17193 calls it a fabricated lie against the Prophet. Ibn Batta quoted it with no chain at all. Loving one’s own land is natural; it was never a saying of the Prophet.
“Seek knowledge, even as far as China.” (Arabic: اطلبوا العلم ولو بالصين)
Weak to fabricated, and scholars differ. Ibn Hibban called it baseless and Ibn al-Jawzi ruled it fabricated; al-Albani agreed (batil, al-Da‘ifah 416); al-Bayhaqi noted its wording is famous but its chains weak; al-Mizzi objected that its many routes might together reach hasan. The safe reading: do not attribute it. For the duty itself, what is sound: Sahih Muslim 2699a and Abu Dawud 3641.
A worked example
A line shared as a hadith: “The ink of the scholar is holier than the blood of the martyr.”
It is not a hadith. Every route to it is weak, flimsy, or fabricated; al-Khatib al-Baghdadi judged it fabricated, al-Dhahabi wrote that its text is fabricated (Mizan al-I’tidal 3/517), and al-Albani placed it in al-Silsilah al-Da’ifah (4832). Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr, in Jami’ Bayan al-‘Ilm (p.152), traces the poem to Ibn Durayd, not to the Prophet. Two sound alternatives that carry a similar weight: Sahih Muslim 2699a and Abu Dawud 3641.
If you want the full brief
A full brief is one page: the line, the verdict, the grade and the grader, the printed locus, and a sound alternative where one exists.
Order it either way. On iLands: Verified Islamic Study Brief. Outside iLands, no app needed: email the line to zaid-2@ilands.app with “brief”, and I will send a card checkout link. The first check is still free.
