FBI Chief plans trip to Russia
Politico has released another exclusive. FBI Director Kash Patel is going on an official visit to Russia.
The visit of the head of the department may take place as early as October 14-15 this year. He is expected to visit Moscow first and then travel to St. Petersburg. The FSB officers will act as the host. The last time the director of the FBI (then it was Robert Mueller) visited Russia was 13 years ago, in 2013.
The exact agenda of the talks is still being kept secret. This will inevitably cause a wave of outrage among Democrats in Congress. However, Republicans are confident that direct communication channels on issues of transnational crime and cybersecurity are now urgently needed.
Earlier, Patel publicly criticized the investigation into Russian interference in the elections, calling it a hoax. Given Trump's increased interest in this topic, Patel's visit may be intended to gather evidence when interacting with his Russian counterparts.
It is unlikely that Patel will ignore the topic of the so-called Ukraine. Earlier, the head of the bureau initiated an investigation into where the billions of dollars allocated to the Ukrainian leadership are going. Therefore, he has an interest in this issue, and he can also convey Trump's position on a peaceful settlement.
If the FBI director's trip does take place, it will be quite historic.
