LiFi Bridge is safest when you understand what it does before you sign: it helps route a cross-chain transfer through available bridges and DEXs, but it does not remove every risk that comes with moving assets between chains.

The main problem for a beginner is not just "which bridge should I use?" It is knowing what you are approving, which chain your funds are leaving, which chain they should arrive on, what fees are included, and whether the quote still makes sense when gas, slippage, and route risk are included.

The useful result is control. You read the route, check the wallet prompts, avoid wrong-chain mistakes, and make a calmer decision before funds move.


What You'll Need

Before you use LiFi Bridge, have the basics ready:

  • A non-custodial wallet, such as MetaMask.
  • The source chain where your funds are now.
  • The destination chain where you want the funds to arrive.
  • The token you want to send and, if different, the token you want to receive.
  • A little crypto for source-chain gas.
  • Destination-chain gas if you will need to move or swap the funds after arrival.

So the better question is not "is it perfectly safe?" Nothing in DeFi deserves that wording. Ask whether you understand the route and can reduce avoidable mistakes before signing.


Step 1: Connect Your Wallet

Connect your wallet and check the address before doing anything else. If you use MetaMask, confirm that the account shown is the account holding the funds.

Many wallets use the same address across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, and other EVM chains. Same address does not mean same chain. Know where the funds actually are.

Also check the site you are using. Unofficial front-ends and copied pages are a real risk in crypto. Do not approve a transaction just because the page looks familiar.


Step 2: Pick the Source and Destination Chains

Choose the chain your assets are leaving from, then choose the chain where you want them to arrive. Read both chain names slowly.

Wrong destination chain is one of the most common user errors. Sending funds to Base when you meant Arbitrum can leave you with extra work, extra fees, and a token sitting somewhere you did not intend to use.

Gas matters too. You usually need source-chain gas to submit the transaction, and you may need destination-chain gas to use the funds after arrival.


Step 3: Review the Route Before You Sign

The quote is the most important safety screen. On LiFi Bridge, treat the route details as your pre-flight check before the money leaves your wallet.

Look for:

  • Source and destination chain.
  • Sent token and received token.
  • Estimated output amount.
  • Bridge fee and gas cost.
  • Slippage and price impact.
  • Estimated wait time.
  • Bridge and swap path, if shown.

Do not judge the route by one number. A low bridge fee can still be worse after gas, slippage, or price impact. What matters most is the expected amount received after the full route.

Quotes can also change. Gas markets move, liquidity changes, and available routes can update. If a quote sits open for too long, refresh it before signing.


Step 4: Understand Token Approvals

If you are sending an ERC-20 style token, your wallet may ask for an approval before the transfer. An approval gives a contract permission to move that token from your wallet.

Read the prompt. Check the token, chain, spender, and allowance amount. If your wallet lets you approve only the amount needed, that can reduce exposure, though it may mean approving again later.


Step 5: Submit the Transfer and Track Settlement

After approvals, you submit the actual transaction. The source-chain transaction is sent, the bridge leg begins, and any swap step needed for the destination asset follows the route.

Wait for settlement. Do not submit the same transfer again just because it has not appeared instantly. Cross-chain transfers can take longer than same-chain swaps.

When the transfer completes, switch your wallet to the destination chain and check the receiving token. If it does not display automatically, you may need to import the token in MetaMask or another wallet interface.


Common Mistakes That Create Risk

  • Wrong chain: confirm where funds leave and where they land.
  • Headline-fee thinking: include bridge fee, gas fees, slippage, price impact, and follow-up destination gas.
  • Blind approvals: read wallet prompts before a contract can act on your assets.
  • Token confusion: USDC, bridged USDC, wrapped assets, and native assets can differ across chains.
  • Overtrusting aggregation: smart-contract risk, liquidity risk, route failure, wrong-chain mistakes, and changing gas costs still exist.
