Is High Dose Vitamin C a PanaCea?

Short answer: yes, or at least the closest thing we have to one. Long answer: keep reading.

Sometimes you come across something that is so life changing you wonder how you made it through your entire life without knowing about it. 

Then you find out that many others already knew about it for decades and have been trying to spread the word to no avail, because there are multi billion dollar corporations that just can’t and won’t allow it. 

Nobel prize winner Linus Pauling tried to alert the world to the incredible benefits of vitamin C, but he was ignored - as so many Nobel prize winners are ignored or marginalized when they go off script (recently: Luc Montagnier, Kary Mullis). 

Many physicians, especially in the alternative medicine space, picked up the baton and started using Pauling’s protocol for healing heart disease, and also discovered vitamin C’s efficacy for cancer, as well as all manner of chronic, infectious and toxic conditions, but the mainstream suppressed the information for decades and still does today. 


Dr Paul Marik, of FLCCC and COVID-19 fame, earlier discovered that 6 grams of IV vitamin C was very effective for treating Sepsis (it was given with thiamine and a moderate dose of a steroid). Since he is one of the most published critical care doctors in the world, it wasn’t so easy to ignore him, so the medical industrial complex went into damage control mode: they ran their own studies on IV vitamin C in sepsis, but made sure to hobble them (?) by not giving the vitamin C early enough, not giving the same dose, and not arranging beforehand to perform subgroup analyses based on outcomes compared to timing of delivery (actually even Marik’s dose would be considered suboptimal by many earlier researchers who routinely used 10s of grams and increased dosing if required). 

However even among many alternative physicians oral Vitamin C has long been assumed to be far less effective compared to IV because research shows that it is poorly absorbed and doesn’t raise blood levels nearly as much as the IV route. 

But, absorption may not be as important as we think, at least not for every indication. 

Dr Sabine Hazan discovered during the COVID pandemic that spike protein appeared to be toxic to bifidobacteria: almost all patients with acute and long COVID/vax injury had dramatically lower levels of bifidobacteria. 


She further discovered that both ivermectin and vitamin C in the gut were like miracle-gro for bifidobacteria.

Maybe this has something to do with their efficacy? 

Bifidobacteria are deeply intertwined with our innate and adaptive immune systems, they actually communicate with our immune system cells and modulate their function. 

This may actually explain why high dose oral vitamin C has proven so effective in treating all manner of infectious diseases. 

Thomas Levy has a couple fascinating books on Vitamin C including Primal Panacea, that discusses his belief that our ancient ancestors all the ability to synthesize Vitamin C in their own bodies, and Curing the Incurable, which discusses the many treatment trials (there are 1200 references) utilizing vitamin C for infectious diseases and toxic exposures. 


He believes based on published research findings that the following are both preventable and curable with oral or IV Vitamin C: Polio, Viral hepatitis, Measles, Mumps, Viral Encephalitis, Chickenpox, Herpes, Viral Pneumonia, Influenza. Diphtheria, Tetanus, Strep infections, Pseudomonas, and Staph infections. 

He believes the following are reversible and/or preventable (and may be curable): AIDS, common cold, pertussis, tuberculosis, leprosy, typhoid, malaria, brucellosis, trichinosis, dysentery, and trypanosomal infections (note: a friend of mine developed an acute Gout attack one day so I looked it up and it seems Gout may also be preventable with Vitamin C).

He also thinks, based on the evidence, that vitamin C can be used as an antidote for the following toxins: alcohol, barbiturates, carbon monoxide, endotoxin, methemoglobin, mushrooms, pesticides, radiation, strychnine, venoms, arsenic, fluoride, heavy metals like lead, mercury, and aluminum, 51 other chemicals including PCBs, aflatoxin and ochratoxin from mold, cyanide, various medications like tylenol and cyclosporin, and even some chemotherapeutic agents doxorubicin.

This is likely not an exhaustive list of infections and toxins that can be treated with high dose oral or IV vitamin C, they simply represent those that had been studied at the time of his writing. 

Within my nuclear family we have experimented with oral vitamin C. I tried it first and found that a single dose of 40 grams completely eradicated an early upper respiratory infection within 24 hours (and caused a couple episodes of diarrhea as a side effect). 

My wife tried it next and found the same results with 30 grams, also triggering diarrhea, and recovering completely from a moderate severity developing upper respiratory flu-like syndrome within 24 hours. 

My 11 year old son only required 4 grams for his flu-like syndrome to be completely eliminated within 24 hours and he did not develop diarrhea.

Since then both my self and my wife have repeated the treatment a couple times with similar results. 

I tried taking a lower dose the second time around and spread it out a bit the first day only taking 20 grams once followed by 10 grams a few hours later and I felt better the second day but not entirely. I then took the full dose of 40 grams and it resolved within 24 hours as it had the first time I did it. 

A couple acquaintances tried it as well and reported similar results with 40 gram doses - feeling better within 12-24 hours. 

A number of patients have reported the same, with doses ranging from 3 grams up to 50 grams.

So, the effective dose seems to vary significantly from person to person and it’s impossible to determine beforehand exactly what it will be.

The three key words for benefitting from Vitamin C: dose, dose and dose. 

If it’s not working, you’re not using enough. 

Some rough guidelines for using vitamin C: up to 40-60 grams for mild to moderate infections, 100+ grams for severe infections like pneumonia, and somewhere in those ranges for Long COVID and cancers. I usually recommend trying 50 grams IV vitamin C 1-2 times a week for Long COVID or Vaccine injury, though this could also be tried with oral dosing. The quantity of liposomal vitamin C required will likely differ from the amount of regular vitamin C and may be much lower, though I suspect it might be helpful to do both regular and liposomal, or regular and IV, since the regular oral dosing primarily affects the gut levels and bifidobacteria, whereas the liposomal/IV is better absorbed into tissues and IV is by far the best for raising blood levels dramatically. 

Another rough guideline is to take the amount of regular oral Vitamin C (not liposomal) required to trigger diarrhea - this bowel tolerance dose is usually higher when you are sick than when you’re well. 

This is also the recommended way of determining a daily optimal dose of vitamin C: figure out how much is required to trigger diarrhea, then either take just under that dose so you don’t get diarrhea, or alternatively split the “bowel tolerance” dose into 2-4 separate doses during the day so as to avoid the diarrheal effect. 

For people who have been chronically deficient, they may find their bowel tolerance decreases gradually over time, in which case their daily dose may fall to a lower point where it remains stable. 

Vitamin C is ascorbic acid, and that’s what I recommend taking, especially for higher doses, rather than a buffered form like sodium ascorbate or magnesium ascorbate because you don’t want to absorb such high doses of other elements like sodium or magnesium. 

You can find ascorbic acid in powdered form, often mixed with a sweetener and flavorings, but it’s usually taken as 4 grams ascorbic acid per 8 ounces of water, which is impractical at much higher doses. 

I’ve tried 2 gram tablets, which were too large and uncomfortable to swallow. 1 gram capsules are the ideal size in my experience and have just the right amount of give to them to make swallowing much easier. I can easily swallow up to 4 of them at once and down 40 of them within a couple minutes with one 8 ounce glass of water (keep hydrating afterwards since you’ll lose it in diarrhea, and need to be well hydrated in order to urinate some of it out). 

Vitamin C is found in fruits, and is especially concentrated in acerola cherries and Kakadu plums, but these whole food sources can’t be concentrated beyond 30-50%, so there will always be a lot of extra bulk involved if using a natural concentrate. So whereas a pure 100% Vitamin C supplement would give you 40 grams in 40 one gram capsules, a natural version might take 2-3 times as many capsules for the same amount of vitamin C, and that’s if you can find a concentrate (the whole Kakadu plum, which is the most concentrated whole food source is still only 1% vitamin C by weight).


The most efficient way to get very high doses is via synthetic vitamin C produced in a lab using glucose (sugar) typically sourced from either corn or tapioca starch. The sugar is combined with an enzyme that converts it to vitamin C. 

L-gulonolactone oxidase (GLO) is the enzyme found in animals that make their own Vitamin C, and it works the same way in the lab as it does in nature by converting glucose from food into vitamin C. 

Interestingly humans actually have the genetic code for this enzyme in their DNA, but it’s not expressed - as far as we know. 

It’s possible that it is turned off in most people, but that some actually do express this enzyme, as Dr Thomas Levy postulates in his book Primal Panacea - maybe that’s one of the differentiating features between people who have bulletproof health, e.g. the ones who smoke and drink and still live to 105 without any signs of disease.

Most animals do express this gene and are very resistant to infections because of it. Goats for example make about 13,000 mg of vitamin C daily, and it’s believed by some that they can ramp up production as high as 100,000 mg/day in times of stress, in order to ward off illness. 

Primates like humans as well as guinea pigs do not make vitamin C (guinea pigs make good guinea pigs because of it). Dogs and cats make it, but not as effectively as goats - perhaps why they tend to succumb to illness far easier than goats do and keep vets busy. 

There are 3 possible ways to get enough vitamin C - genetic engineering to switch on the GLO gene, GLO enzyme supplementation (has been studied in animals, but not commercially available), and the only practical way for now: via food/supplementation. 


It’s not just infectious disease prevention either. Since vitamin C tunes the immune system and prevents oxidative damage it’s unsurprising that there is evidence that vitamin C prevents and reverses vascular/heart disease, which means it also likely prevents and reverses vascular dementia and a whole host of other diseases linked to vascular inflammation. 

It may also play an important role in preventing allergies, asthma, sun sensitivity, diabetes, post infectious inflammatory syndromes like EBV related chronic fatigue syndrome, long covid, long flu, spike injury from shots, macular degeneration, arthritis, cancer, high blood pressure, autoimmune disease and more.

It has been studied for preventing ischemic reperfusion injury, which occurs when tissues that are oxygen deprived are suddenly exposed to high concentrations of oxygen, eg due to reestablishment of blood flow after a period of time where it was obstructed (as with intravascular clots).

This is likely happening in patients with long COVID as they start treating microclots: diminished blood flow suddenly returns towards normal bringing much more oxygen than the tissues have become used to. 

This can manifest as all kinds of symptoms: headaches, cramps, worsening brain fog, fatigue, etc. 





The sudden influx of oxygen causes oxidative damage, which can be effectively prevented by high enough tissue concentrations of vitamin C, since it’s a powerful antioxidant. 

So vitamin C has always been an important part of any long haul/vax injury protocol, but usually at relatively low doses of 1-3 grams a day. It has been recommended in high doses via the IV route, but I recommend everyone do the bowel tolerance dosing regimen to determine optimal daily dosing and then stay on a dose just beneath the one required to trigger diarrhea long term, or at least until they are back to being healthy again. 

The optimal form of vitamin C would probably be from organic (non GMO by definition) tapioca starch (since corn may be GMO and may be contaminated with trace amounts of mycotoxins), and encapsulated with no fillers or inactive ingredients like magnesium stearate or silicon dioxide (which may be harmful to the gut bacteria and the brain). 

I haven’t found all those characteristics in an encapsulated vitamin C product yet, so for now I make do with the Doctor’s Best brand Vitamin C 1000mg capsules, which are close enough to ideal for most people since the ascorbic acid is highly concentrated and purified and good quality supplements are tested “negative” for mycotoxins and other contaminants (within the limits of the tests). 

Another option is to buy bulk powder, the empty capsules and use a manual capsule maker to make your own (let me know if you’ve done this in the comments below). 

I do wonder if natural source vitamin C might be more effective at lower doses, maybe next time I start getting sick I’ll experiment with an Acerola or Kakadu powder.

* Keep your intake of sugar low

* Eat what you like in moderation, but avoid sugar. Meat and eggs are good food; and fruit and vegetables are good. Don't eat too much of any one food and don't eat so much that you become overweight.

* Drink plenty of water

* Keep active, but do not severely overexert yourself physically.

* Drink alcohol in moderation only
