Irobot Vacuum Tips From The Best In The Industry
The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint and dust off floors before they can settle. They can also stay clear of stairs and other obstacles, including tippy furniture.

Most robotic vacuums require maintenance, such as emptying (and occasionally, rinsing) the bin and wiping sensors and cameras. Also, they need to be plugged into an electrical source. Many have smartphone apps to schedule, adjust settings and more.

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest model in the line of top-of-the-line robot vacuum cleaners that are a staple in any modern home. This model is extremely powerful suction and it comes with a HEPA filter that can aid anyone who is concerned about allergies. It also comes with a large battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours and returns to its dock automatically when the bin is full.
Smart mapping is a different feature that helps it identify areas in your home that require attention, and then creates a cleaning path to get around them. This technology is very effective in navigating around toys left on the floor, or furniture legs that are sticking out from under things. It also has a camera sensor that snaps the Roomba back to the real world when it starts drifting from its actual location.
iRobot has also added a set of rollers underneath the Roomba which do not have bristles which makes them more likely to resist knots than earlier models. The rollers are also larger and can fit under beds or couches with low sides. They're designed to make this model more adaptable to different floor types.
What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other high-end models Its main feature is the integration of the new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera to spot bits of embedded dirt. This is a great improvement over the previous version, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage technique to bounce around a room and clean at least three times from different angles.
The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. It scored very well on carpets with low pile and on mid-pile. It did a decent job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.
Despite these minor shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our best-performing robots, and it's not even nearly as expensive as some of the other top-of-the-line models on this list. It still has a lot of features we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that you might find in other top contenders.
The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and get running right away. After taking off the yellow bin insert and the battery pull tab from the undercarriage, it is simply connected to a wall socket or its Home Base docking stations, press the "Clean button" and let it do the job. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery runs out or it's full of debris, and it has indicator lights on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
