Iran's ultimate weapon to choke the Strait
The IRGC Navy has a card it hasn't played yet: swarms of Ashura-class fast attack boats armed with heat-seeking Qadr missiles.
Why it is so lethal:
Range: 25 km — far enough to hit a tanker from Iranian waters.
Speed: 90 km/h — pop out, fire, disappear in under 20 minutes.
Guidance: Thermal homing, immune to US electronic warfare.
Cost: Cheap to build, big stockpiles. If 20 boats swarm from different directions, the math gets ugly fast.
They can also carry anti-drone and anti-helicopter missiles, which pose a threat that the US Navy has no answer for.
These boats have not yet been used in combat. So far, Iran has relied on drones and cruise missiles. However, the knife is already on the table.
